Between this look and her attention-grabbing moment at the Louis Vuitton show earlier this week, we figure we’ll be seeing the newly married Mrs. Tom Holland in white dresses on red carpets for the foreseeable future. Her stylist Law Roach was apparently denied the opportunity to style Zendaya to the gods for a public wedding, and since the two of them once decided to cover her in tennis balls to promote her tennis movie, it seems like we might be treated to a bridal-adjacent fashion show. For the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards, the style team supreme resurfaced a Whitney Houston classic, by way of Carrie Bradshaw:

Most Sex and the City fans recognized this one immediately, since it’s one of Carrie’s more iconic looks, worn in the opening scene of 2008’s SATC movie. Vogue has the details:

“Her Cachè dress is actually a replica of an original Eugene Alexander dress, and back in 1987, Whitney Houston was seen wearing it for a promotional shoot. It’s a little known fact that the Sex and the City frock was, in fact, an homage piece—and Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach cleverly chose to revive it once again. Zendaya is no stranger to rocking archival fashion, of course, so this latest red carpet win is simply another knockout to add to her collection. More than four decades later, it’s such a good dress that it has looked fabulous on every high-profile wearer.”

The Z/R team is great at producing these viral fashion moments and she looks gorgeous, but just taking the dress alone, the design looks dated and the skirt is surprisingly flimsy. She looks great in it because she’s styled well and she’s Zendaya. This is undoubtedly a capital-M Moment. But we can’t say we like the dress.
