Valentino Fall 2013 collection shoes, inspired by the paintings of Flemish Masters.

un peu de “yea” un peu de “nay”, methinks
I would wear them. The flesh-colored velvet is different – I’ll bet it makes the shoes easier to walk in.
These look like your knee-high stockings have slipped down to your ankles. Super nay.
hmmmm… anyone else getting a Downton vibe ?
My thoughts exactly.
Wow, some of these are hell nay.
I’d have to say NAY. I can’t with the sock-effect.
Please tell me this wasn’t specifically a shoe-shoot. Because if it was, they need to fire whoever prepped it.
The shoes themselves? Eh. No great impression one way or the other. Which means “nay” at what they undoubtedly cost.
nay. why did they ruin the pretty shoes!?!?!
disqus ate my comment, so i’ll repost:
yes to the black and nude stiletto, the oxford and the last shoe- way to make a shoe go a notch above the average boring silly putty pump.
the rest are a pass. im not so into the granny chic.
I take it by the flesh tones that Valentino only expects a certain color of flesh to wear their product.
I was wondering the same thing.
My first thought exactly.
and here i was thinking that the one place white privilege would never hit me would be the feet.
I think these might look kinda cool on a contrasting skin tone – like booties but not really. I’m a big sucker for anything t-strap, though. And spats.
Exactly what I thought. But then again, even if they were the “right color,” I wouldn’t put them on my feet because they are really, REALLY ugly.
I mostly agree, but I have to say: DON’T CALL PEACH “FLESH”! THERE ARE OTHER FLESH COLORS!
I know! I was using the term for effect.
Tap dance shoes with spats. No thanks.
Nay except in the black. I bet they are really comfy to wear though.
I think they look UNcomfortable, based on the heels being positioned so far back – very little support for the human heel or arch.
Most of these have the beige “spats,” which I don’t like at all. I do like both black ones and the ones with white spats.
Good god, those beige spats look like my grandmother’s support hose
Or completely fallen down, making one look even more eccentric.
I really like 4,9, 12. I’m curious as to how the rest of these shoes would look on dark-skinned women, especially the ones with the beige spats.
Not loving those fleshy bits. It all looks poorly thought out. That said, if you remove said fleshy bits, the remaining shoes are bland and unworthy of comment.
Nay. I’m not feeling orthopedic just yet.
I love the two-tone shots from the side but if they’re all fake t-straps, nay.
What’s the word I’m looking for… Clunky? Fugly? Love that some of the models have obvious blister marks from all the impossible, ill fitting shoes they have to wear. It’s nice to see that they’re only human after all .
The more I look at them, the uglier I find them. Nay
what is that…velvet?
It looks like polyester Vellux blanket to me – you know, the kind used at your finer Super8 motel.
Nay. Just nay.
I *want* to say yea. BUT THEN! I wonder what these look like face on, and if it’s an accident that none of them are photographed from that angle, and if they look awkward and leg-stumpifying from that angle.
So till I do some Internet research I’m stuck at “ye-, uh, maybe.”
The ones with the most slender heels are the most attractive, but I’m not crazy about any of them. NAY.
Dear Valentino, I’ll take one of each. – Hannibal Lector
I love ‘em. All of ‘em!
NAY. The velvet situation makes no sense. Who wants the illusion of those god awful hose socks…ON THEIR VALENTINO SHOE?
your rock band should totally be named “the velvet situation”
You are so freaking right.
I see what they’re going for in some ways– they remind of a little bit of Victorian button-ups with spats. I just hate the execution. Like, a slightly kitten-ish style was badly pasted on to some really matronly heels. Nay.
A thousand times NAY. Those weird looking inserts look like ped / liner socks for the Very Modest. What’s the point of wearing heels if the shoe has been completely de-sexed?
Super-love the black and white ones and the just black ones. But the piece of old ham molded around the foot on the rest? Very NAY.
NAY! SO ugly.
i was too distracted by the gross scabs and open wounds.
Seriously, I hate to talk about model’s bodies, but this is a professional fashion house. This is the one time photoshop should be used.
If there was an enormous font I would employ it now to type NAY as large as possible to express my feelings about this footwear.
Good job, Valentino! You just made it clear you’re not expecting Zoe Saldana, Halle Berry, Viola Davis, Jennifer Hudson, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Rashida Jones, or any other woman whose skin isn’t Nicole Kidman-pale to wear those “flesh toned” monstrosities.
Easier to say which ones I dislike. 1 & 6 because the heel height is awkward, 11 because I don;t like the glitter/pony hair mix. The rest are pretty cute.
No, I don’t care for these at all. Why would you do flesh-toned pony hair? (Or is it velvet?). Either way, it looks like a foot fungus. If they had gone with really cool, opposite-the-colorwheel fabrics I *might* be on board…but probably not.
LOVE! I’d rock a faux sock/spat for any occasion, really.
It has been many years since Art Appreciation 101. Can someone please explain to me the connection between the Flemish Masters and T-straps with velour*-ish faux spats-like things? I am not getting it.
*Velour, velvet’s white trash cousin. Always a good choice for shoes that cost more than a car payment.
One would think that with Valentino’s budget for ad campaigns that they could have found models to actually fit the shoes.
I like them.
I want all of the T-straps with the spats. The rest someone else can have
Yay! Love them. I would actually wear them, and feel like a million bucks.
These may be the ugliest shoes (collectively) I have ever seen. HIDEOUS.
NAY. Those spats are ridiculous.
So, there are people out there who want to look as if they are wearing a dressy shoe with their prosthetic feet?
I kind of like most of these – different but not too wackadoo so it’s a small Yeah from me
Hell to the NAY. Sorry, these are not worthy.
I like the idea, but the execution is hit-and-miss. Still, there’s enough interest to merit a YAY.
omg YEA x infinity! (except for the black lace ups, yuk) stunning. i’ll have one of each please.
Yay, solely because they are not platform hooves.
Nay, nay, nay. 1000 times nay.
Nope. Just NO.
woooow those are hideous
Because nothing says luxury like repressed Dutch painters.
Ew. Beige spats are a dealbreaker. The only pair I even remotely like are the black spectators.
Out. Odd shape that is interesting, and will be forgotten by next season. Better not wear these in the rain.
The fashion forward part of me says yes….. but the ready to wear part of me says absolutely not…… reality wins…I’m OUT.
YEA absolutely! I think they’re gorgeous. The ones with the lower heel don’t look as great, but I think these are lovely.
I was all set to love them based on the thumbnail. Then I saw the hideous inserts and I facepalmed.
Yea on the idea and overall design. Nay on the beige velvet. I think it would look like a skin condition on women of any color.
I would probably take most of these without the nude spat things
Hate the grey pallor of a dead white person spats.
Like some of the heel options that a real person (me) could wear without falling flat on my ____
NAY – clunky grandma orthopedics.
You took the words right out of my mouth!
I totally agree. Not feeling it.
Anyone else think the spats look like moleskin? Pre-emptive blister protection.
Nay…maybe the chunky-heel black on black, second from bottom pic. Otherwise, no.
I’m guessing shoes 1 and 6 (the shorter clunky heels) will be seen on Elle Fanning at some point.
Nay, Don’t get the heaviness of them.
I’m yea — but also very fair skinned… not crazy about the t-strap feature….but like the overall idea.
Yes to the spike heels. No to the chunks.
The same basic design for all (or am I missing something?), and a not very attractive base design at that. Love to know how much they cost. Nay.
Mostly nay, but the stiletto t-straps are passable. I just wish the inset didn’t match the foot and leg flesh of so many of us.
Nope. I irrationally hate these.
Nay as in neigh…horsie feet.
Deep, deep hate.
It looks like they all forgot to take off the dirty little peds that department store shoe salespeople insist you wear when trying on shoes. OOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUT.
No! So we’ve been through layering dresses, layering tanks, layering skirts, now we’re layering shoes???
Hard to form an opinion without seeing them with an outfit. Just on the feet they look pretty stupid.
Yea – they’re really cool!
First thought was ICKY, then came the giggles.
If something costs $975 USD, I expect something prettier, especially since they are made in Italy! Plus, the shoes might be toxic (but only for Californians). Read the warning label found on the shopping section of the Valentino site. “California Proposition 65
Under Proposition 65, consumers in California are entitled to receive specific warnings regarding products containing chemicals that are known, to the State of California, as causing cancer, birth defects, or other types of harm to reproductive systems, when exposure of these chemicals to consumers exceeds designated thresholds. The information below is provided under Proposition 65, and we hope it is of assistance when making decisions regarding purchases.
In the following categories may be subject to Prop 65 warnings:
Products made with leather or vinyl
Products that contain batteries
Leaded glassware and certain glazed products used for food and drink
The Proposition 65 notice is as follows:
WARNING: These products contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.”
As long as they aren’t those hoof looking shoes I’m happy.
I love them all! I just need to dig my linen wimple out of the back of the closet.
I never thought I’d see racist shoes but here they are. Also, ugly.
When my grandmother buys shoes, she usually takes a bunch of those ped-socks, and then wears them with her little flats. These remind me a lot of that look.
Love them, I’d wear nearly any of them in a heartbeat!
Clunky and silly.
Also, insulting to Flemish masters.
Ugh, nope, not at all, and I love the Flemish masters.
HELL NO! The first photo are what I wore to my junior high graduation in 1964; the rest Dr. Scholl inserts
Call me boring and traditional but these are NOT pretty.
Nay! Those nude inserts are horrid!
ugly as hell.
