Hi Dylan. We like your fascism coat.

‘American Horror Story’ star Dylan McDermott takes a stroll in Soho area of New York City.

Sorry. It’s just that leather trench coats, while fabulous, always make us think they should be on a grim-faced someone in a WWII newsreel. But we like it! Really! Although we think it would look better belted. Also, we just made up a new rule that absolutely no one is obligated to follow: We’re thinking you can wear either the hoodie under the coat or the scarf, but you can’t wear both at the same time without looking like you’re post-spinal surgery. Actually, we’re not even sure what’s going on there in the neck area. Is that a turtleneck? Because it looks like a fabric-covered neck brace.

Anyway, we reiterate: we love your fascism coat. And your face.

      You can see flecks of grey/white in his beard, which is a giveaway that he’s coloring the hair on his head. I think it’s a bit too dark and I’d like to see little bits of grey.

        Hm. I agree that he’s probably coloring his hair, but my (Irish) husband’s beard starting going salt-and-pepper YEARS before his hair ever did. Then again, that was in his 30s.

        Yeah, I’d be good with a bit of grey on him too, but at the same time, my uncle’s jet black moustache went grey about a decade before his head hair did (my father, conversely, could grow a ginger ‘tache even after his entire head was nearly white).

      At a certain point, the color doesn’t make you look younger, though. Just like an older person with colored hair. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s not as though we see a late-forties/early-fifties woman with no gray hair and think “wow, she must be, like, 27!”

        I dunno, I think it gives back a few years, at least for awhile (I’ve passed that stage once the thinning set in too, and I do agree hair plugs are the worst) as it’s doing for Dylan. And it is how we’ll tell him apart from Dermot Mulroney finally, who lets the gray shine through these days!

        You’re stabbing me in the heart! I’m 53 and, unless someone tells me I’m doing it all wrong, I think dying my hair gives back, well, not 25 years, but maybe 10. I do realize that at some point in life I’m going to give up the dye and go (hopefully) gloriously gray, but I like to think I have a few more years. I also think a lot depends on the color you’re trying to pull off. Too dark, too red, and maybe too blond would look harsh when you’re older.

        I’m 63 and totally white on the top of my head, (that started at 19), but still dark at the sides and back. I remember being “frosted” and people asking me if I was “tired” all day long. Thank goodness for hair color, we don’t all wear our grey well!

      At some point some smart colorist is going to figure out how to color a man’s hair while still leaving enough silver to keep them looking distinguished. i poked fun at James Franco’s hair but at least there were some highlights and lowlights in there.

    Man or woman, it’s not that one colors, it’s just doing it in a way that doesn’t look harsh and/or blatantly unnatural. (Because there are infinitesimally few men or women in the neighborhood of 50 who show zero grey “naturally.”)

Clearly I am the only person who thinks he is making a face that is a tragic mix of concentration and constipation. Why does (presumably) expensive leather photograph so cheaply? But it’s too true, he hasn’t aged a day, and despite my complaints, I will always love Jackson Latcherie Jr.

  I greatly regret giving my leather trench coat to Goodwill years ago. My ex boyfriend called it my “russian spy” coat. I decided to let it go along with my knee-length brown suede coat. I still don’t know what I was thinking.

Thankful to live in a warmer clime where one is not shivering, even when wearing a leather trench, heavy hooded sweatshirt, and woolen scarf to brave the elements. Wish he would have chosen a more colorful scarf- pity not to highlight those fine facial features.

I love the idea that, at any time, you could be standing on the street in NY and a man like this will walk by. I know it’s not true, but I do love the idea of a city filled with fast walking, hunky, elegant men headed off to do whatever they do…. of course, he’s probably just walking down the street in order to be photographed, but don’t ruin this moment for me.

It looks possible that the hood is attached to the coat – maybe one of those detachable hoods? I don’t mind the hoodie+scarf combo, but I feel like the colors should be ever so slightly more distinct from each other to make it look more intentionally sculptural rather than just a mass of fabric holding your neck together.
