Christian Dior Fall 2013 Collection

“The Persistence of Memory” was the show’s title, which provided a launching point to showcase a collection dripping with surrealist influences and whimsically embellished with Warhol illustrations. The Dior DNA is still strongly present in the feel and the shape of the collection, but there’s a delicacy, combined with a sense of the odd, that elevates this up past merely being variations on a theme. Let it serve as your Pretty of the Day, darlings. It was certainly ours.

Odd I’ve now seen 3 different sets of photos from this show, all slightly different — fuggirls for example don’t have that fabulous red coat which is probably my favourite piece, TLo don’t have the black coat with the white ruffle facing. Is there one place to see the whole collection?

      Oh, that coat is LOVELY. I’m no fan of the faces and shoes printed on–a sparkly shoe silkscreen kind of screams “Cherry Hill Mall” to me–but this is otherwise a collection I could be inspired by. Ordinary women with ordinary jobs could wear elements of these. And I’d just wear that red coat to the grocery store. And look fabulous. Also, I”m happy to see those shoes again. How I loved them in the 80s…

I love the silhouettes but the surreal fabric painting looks applied at the last minute and the Warhol references just don’t jibe with the rest of the collection. A lot to like however.

  I take your point. It’s odd to use the name of a famous piece by Dali to title your collection, and then reference Warhol instead throughout. Not loving this collection – I find the U-shaped bodices awkward, in particular.

some looks veer toward the too fussy (like the bottom left one) but this whole collection is lovely. chic, retro and ready for editorials. Love.

I read the title as “The Persistence of Money” and was going to give Dior credit for truth in advertising then saw that I read it wrong. Pretty though.

Some of it is amazing, but it looks like someone mashed up the Dior Fall 2013 collection with the Dior Resort collection. And I can’t say I like that overworked peplum in the middle of the B/W row. It looks like the skirt is having an allegic reaction to the bodice.

I. Hate. Warhol. I freely admit it. Apart from his stuff smeared all over, it’s a lovely collection, though only a few outfits truly shine, in my opinion.

I could have done without the two dresses with the crocheted pieces overlaying them. The pink crochet skirt overlay especially reminded me of something that my blind grandmother would have knocked up for one of us grandchildren in her dotage when she had to give up cooking when her sense of smell had gone and food poisoning became a real possibility. So we settled for being fashion poisoned. That pink overlay is perfect example. *Shiver*. The rest of the collection is wonderful.

Oh yes, yes, yes. A few blergh pieces (I hate the nonsense going on on the dresses in the first row) but when you’re talking that houndstooth bodice with the black and grey skirt, and the coats in the second row, and those gorgeous little capelet tops with the bows… yes. I might even be able to forgive the horrid little dress with the tacky shoe design and the sheer skirt.

This is awful. When I think of Dior, I think of Galliano. Maybe it’s my age, but this seems like a lazy approach to Dior. Too approachable and unoriginal to be considered capital F FASHION! I mean that black dress with the high heel sticker on it? I could make that in an hour.

This is so beautiful. I want every coat, and I LOVE the houndstooth! The shoes with the angled ankle strap are really pretty, too, especially juxtaposed against those asymmetrically draped skirts.
