Allison Williams gets the editorial she was born to do.

‘Girls’ star Allison Williams covers the April 2013 issue of Town & Country magazine photographed by Blossom Berkofsky and styled by Sophie Pera.

“I will have my publicist pull pictures of the way I look at events, so I can see, ‘Oh, that cut is not as flattering as I thought,’ or ‘I should smile bigger,’ or ‘That positioning is odd.’ I learn from it.”

“I have a goal, which is that I don’t ever want to look back on something I wore and think, ‘Oh my God, what was I thinking?’ ” she says. “That feeling is much scarier than looking back and thinking, ‘Oh, I took myself so seriously. I’m so buttoned up.’”

Speaking as people who’ve got a couple decades on you, hon; you’ve got that last sentiment exactly backwards.

She perfectly embodies that young New York socialite look, which makes her a perfect fit both for these dresses and for Town & Country. It’s not the most interesting editorial in the world, but it’s right up her alley. She is, after all, someone who apparently lives in mortal fear that she might wear something outrageous.

But what really grates is that she’s credited on the cover as “Brian Williams’ daughter.” She’s co-starring on one of the most talked-about shows on television at the moment. We realize Girls is criticized for, among other things, casting a bunch of extremely well-connected young women, but she’s at least earned the right to be known by her own name and not her father’s.

  I like it. It’s a nice juxtaposition of being “pretty” and being your slouching, jogging-pants self. I don’t think we should expect that it is not intentionally set up. I like that it’s not all one big plastic Dior fragrance commercial to look at.

  If she was a man, it would likely be said in a reverential way… “he’s following in the footsteps of his father!” But because she’s a woman, it’s used to degrade her. Gross.

  When I read “Brian Williams’ Daughter” I thought it was odd, but figured her name was printed in large letters somewhere else on the page so it didn’t matter that much. After reading TLo’s comments, I looked back and realized her name was only printed in teeny tiny letters at the bottom. That’s just sad and obnoxious.

I agree 100% that she deserves to be known as herself, and not someone else’s daughter. Pretty standard and bit bland, though in the last picture, she doesn’t even look like herself.

Hmmm.. if this is the editorial she was born to do, just don’t do editorials I guess. I like the cover alo t, but her posing (?) in the other two shots are almost apologetic about wearing such frocks. The details of both are completely obscured and she looks a little nuts.

Given the magazine is Town and Country, trumpeting someone’s pedigree on the cover seems about right.

  I had not heard this little factoid about her until this article. Do most people mention it when writing about her? Then again, I did not know about the other cast connections. I’ve seen a handful of episodes, but I have no strong opinions on the show either way.

  Really? I’m surprised. I see Zosia referred to as the daughter of Lindsay Crouse and David Mamet all the time, because they are FAR more famous than she is, as Brian Williams is far more famous than Allison. He’s pretty much a household name.

My father is a notable personage, and I am always known as his daughter. I HATE IT. I also definitely dislike him, as a person, so that’s part of it. (He’s no good - I hope Brian Williams is decent.) Nevertheless, I am sort of surprised that she hasn’t publicly and overtly rebelled against that sort of nonsense, and seems to be freaked out by the thought of overstepping some imaginary self – imposed propriety line. I guess she didn’t have control over what they put on the cover, but were it me, I would be raising quite a hue and cry after the fact. If she just takes it, I have less respect for her.

  I do think when you are given the cover of a magazine, they can put your own bloody name on the cover, even (Brian X’s daugher) in parentheses would have been better than not actually mentioning your own name!!
  I’m pretty sure she didn’t know it would work that way. I’ve worked as a model agent – you see the cover shot, but you don’t see the writing (well if you are mega famous you might, but not at her level)

    That was my beef. I get that they wanted to “out” the connection, since people might not know, and that the idea of her watching the show with her family was deemed delicious, but there are better ways to express that, and maybe not on the cover where she is the model. It’s frikkin’ rude and insulting to her career.

    I’m not sure – while I think the show may have helped, I think it may have been being Brian Williams’ daughter/Ivy League grad yada yada that got her the cover. Town and Country seems to have a mix of celebs and socialites on the cover, but the celebs they pick are rarely edgy or hot – it’s more like Giada de Laurentis or Brooke Shields or Ivanka Trump. It’s not usually the star of the newest HBO show.
    
    I still think they should have used her name, rather than what they did, but I don’t think it’s wrong to say her connection to her father got her the cover.

I’m glad you pointed out the Brian Williams thing. It pissed me off the minute I saw it. I have never seen this woman act or be interviewed or in fact do anything other than appear on this blog, but she deserves her own recognition. As irritating as it is, I bet most Town and Country subscribers know who Brian Williams is, not what Girls is. The cover is meant to grab your attention, and they probably wouldn’t have with “Allison Williams.” They should have included her name above the “Brian William’s daughter on acting blah blah” though.

Three fairly interesting outfits and the most important elements of them are not even able to be seen due to amateur poses. Hey, T&C stylist, if your mag picked AW because she’s someone’s daughter (as stated on the cover), you must at least feature the fashions properly because hey, she’s not “important” enough to be get star billing on the cover. I’m with TLo- Allison Williams has distinguished herself as a featured player on “Girls.” Identify her as such on the cover, and address her familial ties in the article. And for Pete’s sake, show the fashions properly or just let her do these angular poses in a yoga outfit and be done with it.

I saw AW on the David Letterman show and she handled herself very well. Her father is a very grounded man with a keen sense of humor and does not take himself too seriously when away from his News job. He is very appealing and she seems to be too. AW has a model’s body and will look good in almost anything. I think T&C are at fault here for trying to make her look ‘at home’. These are very pretty dresses and she does them justice. She’ll learn as she goes on.
