  This strikes me as very silly. There are many easier ways to repel men. Plus, if all you’re doing is dressing in some particular way, unless you are a) already of little interest to most men and b) do not happen upon the (possibly tiny) subset of men who will find you attractive regardless, it isn’t going to work.

    I have read Man Repeller, and while her writing style isn’t to my taste (I’m pretty formal about such things), I think what she is doing is interesting. I don’t think it is quite right to say that she advocates women dressing in ways to repel men. I think she is exploring a female fashion sensibility that isn’t geared towards pleasing the male eye, or with the idea of matching an ideal of female beauty constructed by men and imposed upon women.

What a GREAT memory to have. I’m a big Springsteen fan and I didn’t discover him until 1983 when someone suggested Born to Run which had been out for nine years already. It’s so fun to hear people’s stories of being there when he was playing the clubs. And that scene in The Rose where she played the gay club/bathhouse was so electric. And you were there. That’s cool.

Where? I was just thinking of a friend of mine who played the Gentleman Caller today who I thought captured the character better than anyone I’d ever seen and I’ve seen this play a LOT. I played the mom in college and I had my first moment of being so in character that I reacted absolutely instinctually. I remember being shocked a little and I realized later that I should be doing that ALL the time. Still trying today. Knock, knock.

Let’s just hope the inevitable waterworks are kept somewhat in check. Otherwise the doggone program should be underwritten by PUFFS (P&G) or KLEENEX (Kimberly-Clark), two stalwarts in the tissues wars.

LOVE the exchange between Bert and Stella – the TLOunge is worth the piffle that shows up on the tube. Always nice to see whomever of the gang can manage to show up on this Hallmark (R) holiday.

I just got back from an ActionAids benefit in Philadelphia, where Mondo was the featured guest. Mission accomplished, ActionAids — I dropped a bunch of money at your event and, as an added bonus, got to meet Mondo, who could not have been nicer and eager to chat with this middle-aged lady he’d never met before. I feel bad that the whole team threw Amanda under the bus. I know they didn’t particularly want to – it didn’t come from a place of malice. But her dress came together really well, it was a great look up there.

If anyone should go home, that hot mess that Patricia sent down the runway should send her packing.

I don’t really understand why the judges seemed to give Patricia’s dress a bye. It was my least favorite along with Joe’s.

There’s no reason to make them vote someone off the island. I mean, under the bus. This shouldn’t be like Survivor. That said, of course it’s easier to gang up on one person; more votes for that one means less chance that someone will vote you off. Nasty business. This should be based on the designs, not what went on in the workroom.

I like Joe’s personality, but I think Zac was absolutely right -His problem was not taking his design far enough. His design was supposed to be about the future, which means there are no real limits on a material challenge. He could have taken that design into a whole new realm. I think he is more quirky then avant garde.

Or they are when they’re done correctly.But, on Daniel’s dress, certainly, the panniers were placed too high and in an odd spot, which was decidedly unattractive.

There was a lot of creative work out there today. And less gluing crap on fabric than usual. I think I’d have gone with Layana’s over Samantha’s for the win, but I liked everything on that team. Benjamin just gets special points for building a loom and actually pulling the thing off.

When the designs by the Keeping It Real team came down the runaway, I thought ‘Oh, finally. A win for the Dream Team. Theirs has GOT to be better!’ And it was. I thought Patricia’s was by far the worst of the designs by the first team. Those old flowers dripping off that dress. And I love flowers! They looked depressing the way she used them. The exquisite designs were on the Dream Team. They should have gotten higher praise and the KIR Team should have been the acknowledged losers. JMO.

That episode was an all time classic to me if for no other reason than some of the “INSANE” (TM Kors) outfits that walked the runway. In spite of it being in my personal top 10 (for my amusement factor, if nothing else), it’s also memorable because before the show (and after)-I had never heard of the band they were designing for. The “Sheepdogs” were pretty good sports about it all, IIIRC.

I liked the output for this challenge. I wouldn’t have given the win to Samantha, tho. I thought Stanley’s was amazingly well crafted, and he generated so much movement. Tu’s was pretty good, too.

I hope the producers are taking notice that a TWO DAY CHALLENGE resulted in a fantastic runway show and there was still plenty of drama. Aside from Joe going home instead of Amanda, it was a perfect episode that I will rewatch at least once.

When Heidi was so impressed with the results this episode, I kept worrying that the producers are going to figure it’s some fluke or attribute it to something other than the obvious.

What a pretty and somewhat girly lounge.. I feel like I can get cupcakes or soda fountain drinks and maybe face paint my girlfriends
while getting sloshed at the most exclusive prices!
So this seemed a very chatty, personality driven episode – ALOT of talking about each other.. so and so’s work style, work ethics and
what everybody likes about everybody else, or not.    And the teams are now grouped differently.. essentially new teams which I guess
have to toil under the past performances of one of two flags. The names are interchangable.. yet they will somehow matter in the
judging process?   Anyway, both groups manage to work ok together (too bad Lifetime!) so we get alot of clips with quips.
I think Daniel made a terrible look this time around; the tumor-like cabbages were so distracting, I thought he might be in the bottom. I also thought Patricia’s was a bit messy and the feathers were just extra junk left in. It’s funny she chose to run down
Amanda’s developing design when she and so many others completely changed the original concepts on their dress forms. I saw lots
of designers having second thoughts about their concept, including the winner; Samantha.   I also thought Joe was in the bottom;
his design reminded me of a clown costume, I didn’t like the colors or the strange shape.
I liked Samantha’s – especially the silhouette and the way she used the metal mesh to build the peplum. But I Iiked both Stanley’s and
Layanna’s more; they were my top three. I think I would have given the win to Layanna for the creativity with the straw-webbing.
And I didn’t see anything special about Ben’s weaving, on my screen; I have no idea what pattern or detail it had.

There were good designs this episode, but I can’t believe that no one on Team KIR (oh can we rename them after drinks? Team Kir and Gin Team?) threw Patricia’s BUTT UGLY garment under the bus. And it wasn’t even in the bottom? WHAT THE HELL?
Layana’s was gorgeous. Loved the net. Would have given her the win. Not opposed to the actual winner, but it felt trend-based, as many recent decisions, rather than imagination base.
Also, I felt like Leandra Medine was surprisingly quiet. I love her blog, I’d have expected her to come to the defense of some of the crazier designs.
But I still think Patricia’s was awful, ugly, and should have at least been COMMENTED on (and, in my opinion, should have gone home). She ain’t all that. I sympathize with Michelle – Patricia’s annoying as hell.
Also, I don’t care (or get) what the judges said, I liked HipsterInGlasses/Joe’s sweater-flower dress. It had a McQueen-esque feel (the straight-jacket dress from one of the more Japan-inspired collections; same “dripping” wisteria type flowers; same color scheme). CAN’T BELIEVE THEY SENT HIM HOME. Bullcrap.

Great analysis but I think we all knew deep down that he was destined to be early season roadkill. I really liked his stuff – totally off the wall and didn’t really give a rats patootie if people didn’t get where he was going which I really respect.

Seems to me that Patricia is one of the Chosen Ones who will not be auf’d no matter how awful her work is. It has been pre-determined by the producers. Just like Anya. So, with that in mind, I just watch it all unfold to its inevitable conclusion. And I won’t be surprised when she is in the finals.

I felt the same, that the judges (who are frequently fashion sheep) go for what the current, or recently-past trend is — in this case PEPLUM. They spew “fashion-forward” but that’s really not the case, or they would celebrate someone like Joe, who has a different vision.
