Naeem Khan Fall 2013 Collection

Inspired by the Byzantine Empire and Erté’s illustrations from the twenties, Naeem Khan offered up opulence and luxury in a dazzling succession of capes, embroideries, crystal beading and MEGA-glamour. We wanted to urge all the ladystars sitting in the tent to make sure to pick at least one item for future wear, because this much gorgeousness deserves a spotlight on a red carpet somewhere.

  This is stunning. I’ve been very surprised by the amount of collections that I really like. Usually, I’m scrolling through, and find maybe one or 2 items I like. These last few collections have been the exact opposite.

I’m dead. DEAD. Too much gorgeousness. Cannot handle. Love how opulent yet delicate some of those gowns look. The ladystars should be clawing out each other’s eyes to get their hands on these. And if they won’t, I will!

These are lovely, but between this and the L’Huilier collecti0on and glimpses in other collections, I have decided I have to have a name for “gowns” that consist of lacy lines traced over the torso and legs, with a particularly elaborate design centered over the crotch. I shall call them “crotch-cages,” though actually my original thought was a similar and equally alliterative term which would have required asterisks in the typing.
I really don’t like this trend, in part because it implies that any variation from an idealized norm in the body on which it hangs will spoil the design, and in part because it would be impossible to look at the dress without looking at/for the skin under it.

  I agree; the 2nd row, 2nd design is one of these focus-pullers. If it’s intentional, so be it, but I don’t care for it. If it’s inadvertent, shame on you, all guilty designers, for not taking a step back and giving a measured, critical and assessing squint to pattern placement.

    It looks “different” for sure!
    Several collections had models with the fierce-brow sort of slavic/peasant look.
    I can’t believe it would catch on in the real world.
    But the clothes are beautiful.

I liked this collection. I’d like to see these dresses on some of the ladies currently wearing short cuts. I’d really like to see Ginnifer in that opening blue dress & that first black and white dress.

Not crazy about the middle two that look like dashiki’s.

I normally don’t have the eye others do for putting ladystars in particular gowns but I just saw Cate Blanchett in the very first dress. Wow, these are just amazing.

Love so much of this collection. Especially the quieter gowns in the 4th row and the last two rows.

  I had never heard of him until he showed up on an episode of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style a few years ago. Not only were his gowns amazing, he came across as a lovely and gracious individual as well. Now I always look forward to seeing his work!

I would need someone with a very good eye to alter some these to get the proportions right for me, but if had money to burn I’d give it a try.

The coat on the right of the first row is probably my favorite piece. And one that I’m probably too short to wear effectively, but if I had the money to buy it I’d give it a solid try.
