Michael Kors Fall 2013 Collection

With jolts of vivid color and streamlined shapes, Michael Kors offered his vision of the season: “Bright Lights, Fast City,” which he described as “urban athleticism meets uptown polish.” Kors is a master showman and a brilliant salesman, which means his runway shows are eye-popping, loud events and his collections are always highly cohesive and easy to grasp. He knows his customer AND his audience. Love the simple, almost-utilitarian qualities of the shapes paired with such bold and unforgettable colors and prints.

  Haven’t seen the unconventional challenge yet, but can someone explain to me why those awful browns are so popular? Designs have been difficult to stomach except for the clear winners. The entries looked promising. Can’t blame Mondo and others on selection committee who selected this group. The team thing got to them.

I just can’t with the camo. Everything else is lovely. I’m from Alabama, and camo totally reads as hick. LOVE the houndstooth, though.

  He lost me at the camo too. I’m from Kentucky, and yes, I immediately think redneck when I see it. Oddly enough, I don’t associate it with the military, isn’t that odd?

    Same here. I live actually fairly close to Ft. Knox and camo reads “hunter or redneck” to me before it reads “military”.

  I’m under the impression that fashion people are so out of the loop with normals that they think, “NOBODY wears camo any more, right? It’s OK to use ironically in a fashion show, but with prettier colors now?” It reads as hick to me, too. Although I guess maybe he could be trying to market coats to the military or deer hunters?

  Camo?? Really?? On the runway?? I’m from San Diego and Mexico City where I hardly run into hunters. I associate it with the military.
  So no. It is prohibited. No camo. It is simply a butt ugly print. And why intentionally make reference to hunters and to the army? I do not take design or fashion advice from that sort. And neither should Kors. Ick!!!

  Camo, to me, alternates between military and redneck. In either case, it is completely inappropriate on the runway. No, Michael Kors. No. But, I like the houndstooth a lot.

The man does indeed know what he is doing. He’s gonna sell the HELL out of this collection. Lots of great pieces, most of which are easily adaptable to multiple uses. Lots of great color. That yellow coat is a wow.
He’s never going to be on my list of innovative designers, but he knows his customer base, and plays perfectly to them.

The collection is alright. It looks his stuff, nice but not breathtaking.

I dislike the camouflage (it looks dated and done) and the skirt lengths are awkward, but that tweed pantsuit is fabulous. I want.

I love those clothes (maybe not so much on the camo) but I CAN’T with those sunglasses. They are entirely too Geordi La Forge for my taste.

I love the grey tweed pants-suit, and nothing else. The looser shapes are unflattering– the models all look like they’re wearing clothes that are 2 sizes too big. I don’t like the shiny black zippers/piping, the camo stuff is absurd, and the mullet dresses at the end are bad. I normally like Kors, but I think this was a swing and a miss.

I’m not great at looking at runway ensembles and visualizing how the individual pieces could be incorporated into a real person’s wardrobe, though.

I covet the giant houndstooth print jacket, and the gray low cut suit jacket. Not crazy about the mullet skirts or the camo (though I do like the one long brown-toned camo coat), but it’s a sharp looking collection, and he’s going to make serious money off of it.

  Hate the camo & mullet dresses…but the tweed & houndstooth are good, & that cobalt/black combo is going to sell like crazy to the Gen X ladies (that color combo was my jam back in the day). Kors knows his audience & I agree, this collection’s a money maker.

It looks like early 60s utilitarian to me; so boxy with some of the pieces. There’s a few pieces I like but mostly it’s kind of dowdy.

I like the collection, hounds tooth jacket great, should have done more hounds tooth, less camoflauge, but really did not like the mullet dresses and skirts. I wish that look would go away.

There are a couple of nice pieces, but overall I don’t like. The mullet dresses, especially the one with the leather boob holders (as well as the leather peplum above it), are downright repulsive to my eyes. Trend whore.

Love the blue and the idea of bright colours but not so in love with yellow and orange, I would’ve preferred a primary red and a purplish hue. Silhouettes r sleek and clean. Hubby will like the Cammo. I like all of the prints. Not sure if the colour-block will translate successfully down to petites. Would be nice if someone gave some thought to us for a change. Overall, Fun for Fall!

Overall, I quite like it. The fleece (or fleece-ish?) pieces look a little ‘crafty’ for me, but overall pretty good. The left and right on third-from-the-bottom row are my favorites, and I love the black skirt on the first row and the cobalt/black houndstooth pieces.
