J. Mendel Fall 2013 Collection

It was all high-impact, mega-glam looks for Gilles Mendel this time, as he cited German artist Gerhard Richter as his inspiration. The colors are rich and earthy and the tone is pure luxury; a melding of “rich bitch” and some sort of fur-bedecked Germanic nature goddess. Some looks work better than others for us, but one thing’s for sure: none of these looks are for the shy gal. Heads will be turned.

Last dress, that white shimmery fabric is amazing. I don’t like the bodice on it, but the fabric is TO DIE.

I love everything from the first row and the white dress from the second row. Want the leather jacket. The rest is too shiny or too furry for my taste.

  The top two rows are my favorite, too, especially the top middle white dress. I would love to stomp around NYC in that look and some fabulous boots or booties.

    Also, too many plastics are used to make fake fur. These plastics make the factory workers sick, since the factories are not regulated by the government. If you wear fake furs, you support factories that sicken its employees.

        A lot of leather comes from animals that are used for meat. That’s a big difference than 40 tortured chinchillas. Fur sickens me unless it is worn by someone who also used other parts of the animal.

        Yes. That’s how it works. It’s not like anyone would ever value all life equally or anything. Nope. Sorry, animals. Someone on the high horse says it’s okay to torture you to death so they can have glitter-encrusted Uggs. Now kindly begin hosing the plebs with uranium.
        
        As for me: No. I don’t wear leather shoes. I don’t own or use leather purses or jackets or skirts or belts. There are a lot of high quality alternatives (and occasionally even inexpensive ones) that neither involve animal or human cruelty. We need not pay heed to whatever bored imaginary third world bureaucrat decreed that that if animals are not tortured to death to produce fashion, then the employees churning out synthetics must be exposed to instantly lethal carcinogens. We have other options, such as buying shoes directly from the indigenous women who design and manufacture them.
        
        But you keep manufacturing whatever stories you need to keep on wearing corpses on your body. I mean, it’s cold, right? And maybe possibly a few people you’d never give a shit otherwise won’t get end-stage cancer of the maybes because you were brave enough to wear fur. Congrats.

I don’t like every piece, but there are indeed some stunners in this lot. That opening pic is gorgeous, as is that first bag and the tan/black( blue) gown. If the Oscars are going to be black and white dresses then that b/w in the middle on the next the last row would look great on the red carpet.

Not feeling this collection so much, apart from the first look and a couple others. Luxe, yes, but overall it seems dated to me, with the slashes and way too much fur. Love the styling on the models though. Very pretty.

Overall, I’m not loving this, and there’s way too much fur. I know a lot of lines have some fur, and hopefully it’s faux, but this looks like way way too much actual fur.

sumptuous, gorgeous, lovely. I got like a fantasy wooded vibe- and I seriously got the German feel (being Austrian and having German family). Some pieces I could do without like the shiny silver or the red ones, but oh those cobalts and the color blocks and the layers! OH MY!

5th row, all the way to the right. It may be because I am tired, but a quick glance made it look like a coat rather than sleeveless and that the models fur-covered hand was reaching between her legs to adjust something.

I usually stay away from commenting about collections with real fur because I am strictly against it — zero tolerance, even for “divas” — and anything I have to say is unkind, at best. But I do want to say that the amazing beauty of these furs reinforces my opinion that furs should be left on their original owners.

Like a lot of this. The resurgence of furs in the last few years is disgusting. Nothing has changed about the fur industry.

I can’t get behind ANY designer that still uses fur. Senseless, senseless slaughter. We don’t eat minks, foxes, etc. they just toss the carcass away.

I am going to assume that is not real fur. And with that – I say that every single look is gorgeous. Michael Kors, can you please take a page from THIS book? Note the lack of camo and of other tired motifs?
