Something is wrong with me, because I don’t hate it. I love the blue and the sheer. Hell I can even get with the printed velvet.
I cannot however abide the visible elastic tunnel, not only is it cheap looking _ it is extremely unflattering.
If only the sheer had been a yoke and the sheath had had darts, or the chiffon had been the entire bodice and again the skirt fitted with darts it would have been a complete In for me.

Hey – I have friends who are 80 year old belly dancers! They would want a bigger skirt. And belts that jingle. And fake coins on the bra. But, other than that, I think they would love this since it isn’t so different from some of their home made costumes. Of course, they would cover the elastic with things that jingle.
Maybe Flo’s going to go home, put on an apron, make some falafel and hummus, and invite the geriatric belly dancers over and have one hoot of a great evening. That sounds a lot more fun than wearing this dress out in public.

Oh, Flo. This is just so, so sad. The midriff pouf, the hideous pattern, the elastic waist, the droopy faux-straps. I can only assume everyone concerned with designing, crafting and selecting this dress for you had been huffing glue for days. The only thing is that the color is great for you. Ditching those mis-matched, clunky rings (some of which are probably VERY cool except they all blend into a crazy jumble) would have been in order. Love the earrings, and darling they would have been exactly enough for this . . . well, they look good on ya. And a shoulder bag with this dress is heartbreaking, although I have to say I love that sort of Edwardian thing.

Please, Flo, just promise you will keep the glue away from anyone concerned with dressing you. Because THIS is the result.

Not only does this look awful (on both her and the model) but this couldn’t possibly even seem workable on paper. A floral elastic waist tube top and long skirt over a sheet bodysuit… yes, let’s make that.

Personally I say bring it on. It makes me feel better about my own choices. I can look better with far fewer natural and monetary assets, or even if I look awful I did with less effort and less money.

But is it a dress? I’m strangely fascinated with the whole… ensemble. And I kind of love it. I love the idea of the skirt and the little top over chiffon and I’m nuts about the color. And I love the hair and earrings with the concept of the dress, but that fabric is flammable couch upholstery. I applaud the failed effort because it’s so much more interesting than the usual pretty girl gowns and tarted up thigh-slit yawners. This is True Bohemia and I’m always going to stand up and salute that.

The most offensive part about this for me is the crazy elastic stuff–as a designer/student, I’ve been tempted many a time to try to reclaim elastic anything as chic, but it pretty much never, ever does.

Also, the pattern is so pathetically basic. Shame on the intern that put that into a half repeat!
