Yes, yes; this dress is stunning and Fan Bingbing is a magnificent creature of fashion and sparkle and all that is good in the universe; we can all agree on THAT.

But…

Fan Bingbing attends the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscar party in an Oscar de la Renta gown.

It looks like it’s floating about 3 inches in front of her head.

Bingbing sweetie, next time, have your makeup artist flown over with you. Apparently, no one in Hollywood knows how to make up an Asian goddess’s face.

I think the flash from the camera likely made her make-up look 5 shades too light and thus the “floating” effect. Great dress and accessories in usual Fan Bing Bing form.

    b) She almost certainly is wearing 5-inch heels, that’s not all that unusual for high fashion.

Her styling was off all night, especially her hair. I realize she’s an Asian goddess, not a Hollywood goddess, but I saw her in three different gowns, and that hair style was wrong for each one.

Oh man, whoever did her makeup didn’t realize that pale people with golden undertones need different foundation than pale people with pink undertones. I hate that. They completely washed her out.
I like the texture of the dress in the closeups. Looks like ribbons.

  Looks to me like they did about 4 pounds of rice powder on her face. Bad kabuki primer. Better foundation undertones would have made a world of difference (speaking as a pale kitten).

I feel like I am commitinga sacrilage here but…. I’m not crazy about the fit of the bodice on here. It looks much more fitted on the model, Fan’s seem a little lumpy on the sides. And I like this dress with the uber statement necklace for balance. And I strongly believe the make up issue is more the flash of the camera creating a shadow effect on her neck and shoulders while highlighting her face too much.

As an Asian gal – I can totally attest to this!! Every single formal event I go to, I have been made-up whiter than I need to be. I’m FORCED, darlings, FORCED, to do my OWN make-up like a peasant. Such is my suffering and you should all send me $$$ to ease it. Also to buy some decent make-up obvs.

Yes, it’s dramatic, and yes, it’s superior to the magenta napkin folds she wore on the red carpet, but still it misses the mark. Her makeup for the awards show was flawless, so I’m going to guess this look was hastily done between awards show and VF party. Pity. I need to look back at her first look- weren’t her nails done for it? Her cuticles look a bit rough here; again, maybe they were quickly stripped, with a fast clear coat applied for the party. I could be more on board for the dress if it were fitted properly in the bodice and a strong necklace to play off of it. That cuff is A-MA-ZING.

This is the dress that made every single one of the BK’s threaten to commit acts of violence against ONE ANOTHER to get their hands on. It’s a pretty special dress if the BK’s threaten to cut one another for it. I am glad it was her who first wore it’s original iteration because I believe I have seen another starlet (not very memorable) wear something attributed to this runway look. I liked the strong necklace with it better. Would have actually liked to See Shelly O in this dress. It screams summer to me, though.
