Samantha’s naturally been overshadowed by her more famous – and more nakedly award-seeking – Les Miserables co-stars, but we loved this look so much we had to give her a shoutout.

‘Les Misérables’ star Samantha Barks attends the 33rd Annual London Film Critics’ Circle Awards in a Roland Mouret dress paired with Jimmy Choo pumps.

We like the runway version better; especially with the belt, but the red carpet version is just fine. It’s sleek and sexy; bold and eye-catching. The classic silver pointy-toed pump was a great punctuation point.

And now, bitching:

Like we said, she could’ve used a belt. And some jewelry would have taken this further into night-time, if that makes any sense. There’s something a little business-like about the dress and since she’s at an awards ceremony, we think a touch of glamour and drama was needed to bump it up from “merely” being a chic look. Just some earrings and a bracelet is all we’re asking for. And we’re sorry, but the hair is awful.

It’s a great dress and pair of shoes, but if you want the full red carpet look, the effort doesn’t stop there, girl.

Well, it makes her look positively teeny tiny, so good on her. The top reminds me of a linen napkin being tucked into a collar, and I agree, the runway version is much more interesting.

      Not digitally — she was corseted! She and Eddie Redmayne spoke about it in an interview; he said he believed that she had the hardest time singing because of the tiny, tiny corset she had to wear.

        They actually put a corset on her?!? That’s ridiculous! Not only is she already teeny tiny, it also makes no sense costume wise. Her character runs around in hand-me-downs for God’s sake!

      I’m glad I’m not the only one who was freaked out by her waist. Couldn’t stop staring at it. Also, I saw the movie five weeks ago and I still can’t get the damned Javert/Valjean confrontation scene music out of my head. I hope you’ve all seen the Jason Segal/Neil Patrick Harris version.

    YES x2. It really kind of creeped me out. I love a nipped waist, but that was almost disturbing. Like Dita von Teese tiny.

      Seriously! Some people are just skinny… and i’m sure they eat sandwiches all the time I think sometimes people think that pointing out that someone is super skinny is always a compliment, but I have friends who are naturally extremely thin, and they don’t feel that way at all. It’s like saying she needs to NOT eat a sandwich, which is clearly a put-down. (although I realize being thin and being overweight are two very different things in our society, so I don’t meant to say they’re equal by any means).

Her waist is out of control (in a good way).

Did anyone see Les Mis? There were scenes where I couldn’t stop staring at her midesection, and that was in a blouson raggedy dress.

  I think this is just all new to her, being her first film, and she doesn’t know how to pose. Which, as someone said above, is fairly endearing.

I love her, just for the plain fact that she didn’t turn into Anne Hathaway from being in this film. Plus, she looks great in this outfit that isn’t the typical red carpet dress.

    It’s a very “theatre” way of posing – one foot flat, knee straight, other foot resting on the outside of the big toe, knee bent. Think of the Rockettes when they’re not kicking As a fellow musical theatre person, her pose jumped right off the page at me (I have a gazillion photos of myself and friends in that exact pose – it’s just second nature to hit it whenever someone has a camera LOL). And I just love that she naturally went right to that place.

Runway version is pretty fierce. The green/white contrast really pops and she’s so teeny-tiny that she definitely could have pulled off the white skirt. The rest is terribly underdone — she forget to do her hair!

I agree, the runway version looks more interesting. The top on the model looks interesting, but that gets lost on this version. She could have spruced it up with some fabulous Art Deco bling.

Oh I wish she would have gone with the runway green and white version! The black and green combo took it from WOW to almost zzzz. It’s still pretty but what a missed opportunity for a WERQ!

Even I don’t go to work without putting on some type of jewelry… it surprises me that so many famous women (and their stylists) think its cool to attend red carpet events without ANY jewelry. Unless it’s like the most complicated outfit ever (which this clearly is not), you always need some sort of jewelry, amiright?

Well, I had to go back and look at the runway version to make sure there was a little color insert at the hem because I thought her black undergarment was peeping out! That makes me think the skirt is too tight. If the skirt moved a bit more, it would have been obvious that there was black detailing. And do I spy some ice blue eye shadow? Even if it’s just pearl, if it’s noticeable, it’s too much.

LOVE IT! Sleek and body conscious without being too tight. I think a belt would have been a mistake. It would have made it more of a day look and it would have cut the long, elegant line created by this garment and therefore it would have shortened her. I agree that some diamonds (maybe a fabulous Deco bracelet) would have upped the wow factor. The hair needs work, stat!

Samantha looks gorgeous here- sure she could have used some accessories but the look is strong enough that it looks great as is.

What kind of jewelry would she wear? Not a necklace. There is too much going on at the neckline and shoulder area. Maybe a black bracelet and some bold earrings with a bold purse?. It would be very easy to ruin the looks with bad accessories.

That is a great dress, and I love the color changes from the runway version. Definitely needed a belt and some jewelry (and obviously different hair!), but a very classy look. A good start!
