Julianne Moore covers The Sunday Times Style Magazine.

She’s striking as hell and, in an editorial setting, she can work some pretty odd clothes, but her face in every picture could have been copied and pasted from the same shot. For such a versatile actress, she’s coming across astonishingly one-note here. What she needs is some drag queen boot camp training. They can teach anyone how to give world-class face.

If I never have to see another plunge-to-the-waist neckline complete with pancake boob again, it’ll be too soon! Enough already. What was the curse in Harry Potter that made people into statues? Looks like that’s what they did to her face. She’s better than this.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … don’t blame the subject for this stuff! They undoubtedly took DOZENS of photos in each setting and outfit. Blame the EDITORS of the magazine. They’re the ones who picked the same face over and over! I guarantee you that the photographer had her laughing, closed mouth, smirking, and tons of other things. You don’t spend the time on set, makeup, clothing and hair without taking an hour’s worth of photos for each image. When you see an editorial with one facial expression … it is almost NEVER the subject’s fault. Often, they decide based on what makes the clothes look their best, and forget that readers are looking at the actress’s face more than the clothes.

I remember her looking pretty much exactly like that during Ophelia’s mad scene in Hamlet at the Guthrie in the late 80s. So it’s cool she still looks the same 20-odd years later, but kind of weird she’s still stuck on that one expression. (To be fair, she did have more than one expression as Ophelia. But this one was the whole vague/mad/out of it scene.)

Don’t you think though that perhaps there were plenty of other pictures – I mean really, they probably took 1,000 photos that day – and that we need to put some of the blame on the editor. I suspect that the reason this mono-face editorial so often happens – even to the best of our favorite ladies - is that the editors think it makes the spread cohesive or something. Just a hunch…

Hmmm. In that 2nd shot, she’s leaning sideways but her boobs are straight on. It’s a miracle of nature.

Is that her fault or the photog’s? I wonder? I can’t abide the slack-jawed, open-mouth breather look. It really makes her look kind of stupid or vapid. I’m pretty sure that’s not what they’re going for. And why have her hair hanging down in front of her face like that? Ugh! I love her as an actress and her city lifestyle but she’s just weird when it comes to styling.

That last picture explains what is wrong with her fashion sense. She tries to do avant garde, and never pulls it off. And, yes, we all noticed she had the standard-issue-Hollywood-boob-job. We get the fact that she does not have boobs, but she has jugs. We get it. Why does such a beautiful woman keep screwing this up? She has been in this industry for what, 20 years? Does she still think she is nothing more than a pair of jugs positioned below a botox face? Too bad. She has talent, but low self esteem, apparently.
