J Lo gets the “Xena, Warrior Stripper” treatment in the pages of Harper’s. But first, she wants to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Jennifer Lopez covers the February 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine photographed by Katja Rahlwes and styled by Jodie Barnes.

J Lo? You have the mike.

On her infamous 2000 Grammy Awards dress: “I have that at home. The other day, my housekeeper put it on a mannequin in my spa, where I get my hair and makeup done. She sent me a picture. She was like, ‘You like this dress?’ Um, yeah, but I don’t know if I like it out in the house!”

On her career: “I’m a singer. I’m a dancer. I’m a performer. I’m an actress. That’s what I’m supposed to be doing. It makes me a better parent, a better person.”

On keeping things simple: “I like the whole idea of traveling, of looking good, and doing it well. I make it as simple and as beautiful as I can because my life is kind of big. So I pack my luggage, or dress myself, or comb my kids’ hair, pick up their clothes—that makes our life beautiful, you know? There’s something very elegant in that.”

“One day my housekeeper came into my spa where I like to look good, and she spoke directly to me! And made eye contact! I had her whipped and thrown into the sea, because my life is kind of big and I need to brush my children’s hair because elegance.” Never, EVER change, girl. You are a treasure.

We don’t mind that she’s in all these super-showy, glittery, dresses showing a healthy amount of skin. That’s at least partially her look, after all; diva personified. But we really don’t think every dress needed a knee or thigh-high gladiator sandal paired with it. Once is fine, but with every dress it’s a bit of overkill.

  She is in Çırağan Palace in Bosphorus, she was here a while back for 3 (packed up!) concerts and that’s when the photoshoot was held on location. Though I might add photography doesn’t even make a good job of Bosphorus as a backdrop.
  Apart from the last one, which is quite oversaturated, the colour and light is definitely Istanbulite. But the composition of the horizontal elements are way slanted, giving the impression of haphazardness.

    There’s a documentary out now called “The Queen of Versailles” about a normal middle class woman who married a billionaire. They fell on “Hard times” after the ’08 crash, and it was amazing how, after 20 years away from middle class life, she completely lost all sense of what’s normal. She went up to a Hertz rental car kiosk at an airport to rent a car, and didn’t realize that rental cars didn’t come with drivers. It completely went right over her head.

The Tom Ford looks dramatic and very elegant on the model, but on J Lo it looks cheap–perhaps it’s the white or seeing the low cut back or the black gladiator strappy heels. Or maybe it’s just the wearer. I have to go now; my simple and elegant life requires that I finish making the pierogi.

This must be why I’m not rich, y’all. I’ve just never found the beauty in picking up my kids dirty socks nor any particular elegance in the fact I dress myself. Gratitude for those things? Absolutely. But I don’t feel like they are special acts or that they make me a better person, parent, actress, singer, dancer, actress.

And I see J-Lo specifies combing her *kids’* hair. Not her own. Naturally, after Jenny’s dressed herself (!) she’s swanning down the hall to her maid where wardrobe notes from her younger days are lovingly displayed and the ego is massaged with the not-so-subtle notion that she could still wear that dress. Y’know, if she wanted to. Then someone ELSE is combing Jen’s hair. In her spa. Where she likes to be pretty. And mannequins aren’t out of place at all. Just like all us Moms!

This article was hilarious!! And I still gotta admit she looks better in those dresses that the models actually do. I don’t mind the space age shoes and shimmery dresses. After all, she’s dialing in from another planet, our Jenny.

She is in Çırağan Palace in Bosphorus, and those places are real. She was here a while back for 3 concerts. Though I might add photography doesn’t even make a good job of Bosphorus as a backdrop.
