This is so beautiful but it almost feels costume-like to me. I’d like to see more contemporary styling. The lookbook shot with Erin O’Connor works better for me.

    That’s a fair point and I can’t say she’s not gorgeous. I’m just going through a phase of frustration that there’s so little progression in womens’ evening/ occasion clothing. It’s like an aesthetic was decided upon somewhere between 1930 and 1950 and that’s that. This is why I’m much more excited by Anne Hathaway’s look even if it still has a few issues!

Just breathtaking. (I’d switch out Crawford for Rogers in the string of slashes; Joan slinked thru the ’30s but her ’40s shoulders were even more iconic. Ginger, however . . . wow, I can envision her in this dress.)

  Echoing this. I’d like to see the hair pinned to one side with a bejeweled pin. While that bracelet is a stunner, my choice would have been something more neutral. This is a killa dress, and she is wearing it well.

That is a fantastic dress. The print is designed to change, so it makes the dress look interesting. No noticeable seams slicing up the print. The colors are not typical for this type of event, and she looks great.

Don’t really care for the arm vents, especially since it’s also backless, and those accessories feel pretty limp in the face of that stunning print. But major props for the print and shape of the gown, not to mention the colours.

A personal best… I’ve long feared that Watts suffers from Streep Syndrome – a beautiful woman with a lovely body, hidden in a non-descript gown. The color, in particular, is gang-busters on her.

Speaking of Meryl, I recently saw Hope Springs. (She’s okay; Tommy Lee Jones, incredible.) In one scene, she walks into a bedroom in a Grecian goddess-style nightgown, and looks stunning. All I could think was: Why can’t you look like THAT on the red carpet, Meryl???

What a gorgeous dress and she looks perfect in it! On a side note: she was on Ellen pledancing yesterday and had on a very chic little blouse. I like her rather understated style most of the time but it is great to see her break out the glamour big guns from time to time. (The real highlight of the interview though was the flashing a pic of her hunky husband on a bicycle with the kids. He is one of my secret man crushes)

I LOVE the print, and in general, I don’t like florals very much. What’s so great about it is the larger flowers here and here, then bunches of smaller flowers there and there, balancing and flowing.
