I think she looks gorgeous.
That seaming does not look right. As for a Stellan McCartney dress, though, this one is fairly inoffensive.
I do wonder if anyone saw last week’s Fashion Police where she (Stella) was named fashole of the week for a particularly hideous jumpsuit (Joan alluded to it looking like a bad tooth, which was hysterically apt). Somedays, I think she should get an award for historically bad fashion and design. Thoughts?
The fact that the word “fashole” exists in the world just made me proud to be alive.
It’s tragic that she was just awarded Fashion Designer of the Year. The empress has no clothes.
Let alone talent.
Amen to that.
WHAT? You are kidding me. I have been away from computer for two weeks (Kennedy Center Ballet Baby!!!) and now I come back to see that Stella McNoTalent is “FASHION DESIGNER OF THE YEAR?” I need to lie down now.
Have you ever noticed the cheesy set for Fashion Police? I thought Joan Rivers would have a more tasteful set than that. She has shown what her home lookslike, and she likes opulent expensive well decorated stuff. The set for this show looks like an oddball collection of mediocre stuff. They sit on what looks like indoor/outdoor furnture, and the little bouquets strewn about the room show no aesthetic sense at all. They have a rug and a fake coffe table that is also mismatched. The chairs they sit on look like an oddball collection of leftovers. What’s going on with that? I try to ignore it while I watch her show, but I am always amazed that this is so unlike her taste. Weird. It looks cheap to me, but probably isn’t. It is sad that that mish-mosh is probably very expensive.
If I remember correctly, they had Jonathan Adler come in and design the new set. I thought it looked particularly low-end-department-store-clearance-rack myself. I’m glad it’s not just me.
“I sheened a sheen…”
odd seaming on the back
Indeed. There’s a zip just above her backside right? I’m not imagining that. I think I can technically work out how it might work for fitting instead of a more traditional placement but why?
Cheap-looking lamé, a generic slip.
The fit on top is off – this piece is cut for a smaller-breasted woman. It’s flattening her and she’s pouring out of both sides.Compare to the ’30s inspired Zac Posen on Naomi Watts — from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Still hate Stella.
Miss Jasper County is missing her dress.
This would be stunning if the girls had some more coverage/support. And yes, I realize it’s a Stella dress…
Samantha has now successfully deployed two Stella dresses. I think the world is ending.
Well, you know, those Mayans…
It’s a pretty (a la Tina Louise) dress but the fit does look a bit off in the top… maybe should have been hiked it up a skoosh or maybe just more suited for a natural (aka not pushed up) boob-line? Hair and makeup are kind of plain but pretty enough with the overall look
Tina Louise would never have that much uncovered, unsupported boobage.
It’s sad that she barely gets two seconds in the trailer. Eponine is more important/interesting than Cosette. I feel like she’s been fading into the background in the lent dress department as a result.
Meanwhile a new crowd of angsty young theater kids learns “On My Own.” #nostalgia
I saw the play for the first time last year and could not stop going “Why is Eponine treated so horribly and EVERYONE is fawning over Cosette?” I just don’t get it. I think Cosette and Marius are the two characters I could care less about. And Eponine has the most recognized song in the musical yet she gets no trailer time.
I think of Cosette and Marius the same way I think of Anthony and Joanna in Sweeney Todd – a pair of teenage idiots. Though I think Sondheim did so more intentionally than Hugo. (To be fair, Eponine is more annoying in the novel, so all the teenagers are pretty annoying.)
ITA, although I’d put Anthony at the head of clueless class. But annoying is an adjective that works for me, too.
Clueless! That’s the right word.
You have to read the book, really. Cosette is simplified a ton for the show, which does make the contrast between the two characters more incomprehensible.
We’re not the audience they (the ubiquitous they) are trying to attract. I can only guess how many people have never heard of the play, much less read the book in anything longer than Cliff Notes. All those potential ticket buyers and such short attention spans.
Eponine ALWAYS gets fucked over. It’s like that’s just her lot in life. Last year, I saw the revamped tour (which was all kinds of fantastic), and Marius actually cried and was visibly very upset by her death. I’ve seen the show 4 or 5 times, and it was the first time I saw a Marius who was actually noticeably upset when she died. Usually he’s more like “oh, I guess she died or whatever. ZOMG I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT COSETTE!!”
“Eponine is more important/interesting than Cosette.”
Preach, sister! Marius was a fool.
I guess she’s just really conscious of being the least famous person in this movie – it’s like the echt Hollywood gown without actually getting it entirely right. The fit isn’t perfect, and while I can see the temptation to go super simple because it is so much dress, I think it needs *something*. A coloured wrap (I am obsessed that they are cold)? Hair back and big arse emerald earrings?
Nice enough, but what’s going on with her boobs?
I am very disappointed that this dress is not the standard-issue hideousness one comes to expect from Stella McCartney. I was looking forward to a good Marlon Brando-style howl.
It’s okay, but not particularly figure-flattering – it just kind of…hangs on her and makes her look a bit hippy. I like the feel of the dress, but it was just not put together well.
*She* looks pretty, though, despite all that.
Cute, but who is she?
Samantha Barks is cast as Eponine in the Les Miserables movie. She is also a West End actress. I saw her in the 25th Anniversary production of Les Miserables and she was great. I hear her performance in the movie is Broadway-like but I look forward to seeing her in the role. I was very happy they gave the movie role to her and not Taylor Swift for goodness sakes.
They were actually thinking of casting Taylor Swift as Eponine?!
Gorgeous girl in a gorgeous dress!
She looks fantastic! I give this one to Stella McCartney.
I think this is great, but could use a necklace.
I hate the seaming. I always imagine Stella in her studio, wondering to herself: “Hmm. What pretty idea can I ruin today?”
Hahaha! Like an evil, mad fashion scientist!
I recognized the seaming from the type of thing Jean Harlow wore in “Dinner at 8″ – (Diamond gaudet allows for a fit across the stomach and a flowing fuller skirt) – but the Harlow item was satin and she was wearing it in bed— and she was surrounded by like elements because it was a costume.
I love this! I still haven’t a clue who’s she is though.
why do i have images of Vanna White ca 1980′s going on in my head?
I actually think it’s not bad…I think the bodice should have been lifted a bit to fit her better. I would have like to see some jewelry, too.
she looks good and for a Stella McCartney dress it’s great.
She looks great.
I love how genuinely happy she looks! She looks gorgeous as well, of course.
Goodness she’s gorgeous, and I especially enjoy her big old smile and dimples, but I want her to stop with her hands. There ARE other ways to pose!
This (I can’t believe I’m saying this) isn’t too horrible for a Stella. The fabric does for some reason look cheap, though. And I don’t think this gal (whoever she is) has enough “vavoom” to carry this type of dress.
Hunh. A McCartney I don’t hate! Granted, it’s a pretty classic design and color. I really like silver and pewter tones on brunettes. The hair and accessorizing are a bit boring (the latter is practically nonexistent), but that gown really suits her.
So who is this cheerful little woman? She looks great in this dress.
Looks cheap and is not doing the girls any favours.
Her recent appearances remind me of Lea Michele. But of course Lea would add a slit to the bottom half, of course.
Slinky and fits in all the right places.
Va-va-va-VOOM! She looks beautiful. Finally, a Stella I can actually like. Of course, the bustline fits kinda weird, but Imma overlook that due to total lack of flesh colored netting.
I almost was going to like it until I looked at the gal’s left breast, which is just smashed beyond all repair.
What a beautiful girl! I am in awe of her perfect, natural breasts.
Oh, and I like the dress a lot.
this is smoking hot!
Young, pretty girl, acceptable dress. But there are no accessories, no interesting shoes, and just-there hair. She could be Miss Junior Miss for all I know. Considering the amazing gowns that also were on this RC, wish someone could have scored this cute gal more time with the stylists and some bangin’ jewelry.
A better fit on top and this would be a knockout! Overall she looks pretty great. Love the smile, and the fact that she’s clearly enjoying herself!
I don’t love-love the “note my overflowing bounty” look of the bodice over her breasts, but I am pretty sure she wanted it to look like that – and otherwise the dress clings pretty smoothly to her curves which is its point. Overall, A- territory. Can’t slam Stella for this one.
I have no idea who she is but I love her bazillion-watt smile.
I think this is the first Stella McCartney dress I have seen that I actually like enough to buy if I win the Powerball Lottery.
Are you sure this is a Stella McCartney? I actually like it, and that’s a first for me! The fit is a little wonky in the bust, but otherwise fits her like a dream. Nice old-school Hollywood glam factor.
WOW, she looks great! A cuff or something would not have been amiss, however.
okay dress, needs bling
I like this Stella McCartney dress! Interesting.
Is anyone else getting a little bit of an “of course” vibe from her looks?
SIDEWAYS BUTT ZIPPER?
I like this dress but if it were on Project Runway, Tand L might suggest that it can be seen in department stores all over the country…
I dunno, I’m thinking this is kinda excellent. That’s some picture-perfect cleavage there. Ah, youth.
I typically thing Stella McCartney would have never made it in the fashion biz if not for her famous dad. That said, this is a stunning, elegant, and flattering gown. Hair and makeup look great, too, the former a skosh casual but she’s young and can pull it off. Two tits up!
That’s a gorgeous gown! But I think she’s not tall enough or flat enough for that one.
Pretty. Weird zipper. If this were not a Stella which is usually awful, one would note that it is a nice dress and fits the lovely young lady well. But because it is Stella it is elevated to wow that is great. Cute kid but someone should have helped with hair and accessories.
She’s so cute! But all I see are smushed boobs.
THE FIRST SM I have evr like. Cut and proportioned beautifully FOR ONCE
