  Yep- even on ebay Jil sander is out of range, alas. Although sometimes I do wonder- who the hell is running to ebay to drop 500 bucks on a coat that you can’t try on, can’t see in person, and possibly can’t return? Does not compute.

    Same goes for Kenzo. I almost got a jacket that I was willing to pay 250 bucks for, and the owner cancelled the auction cause that apparently wasn’t even close to what they wanted for it.

You should see my mom board a plane. Full makeup, hair and dressed to the nines. She would never step off a plane and greet distant relatives and friends without looking her Sunday best. I get lectured for not doing the same.

When I was in a long distance relationship, I wore 40s vintage clothing for the flights to see the boy. It made our airport reunions quite romantic, plus added an extra element of relief when naked time came around.

My Grandmother drilled the same edict inot me. I am more relaxed but always, always, always fly wearing a blazer. Usually with a dark jean that is forgiving for all the sitting, ect. The breat thing about wearing a classic navy or gray blazer to fly is it has extra pockets inside for items and always comes in handy at my destination.

Your mom and my mom are cut from the same cloth! She’s no stranger to her best purse and hat, and heels for when she walks off the plane so my family and any old friends she may run into at the airport (we’re from a small town so that’s highly likely) know she’s doing well for herself…

    I adore that scene too – mostly because I adore Emma Thompson and feel she can do no wrong – but overall I find the movie way too sentimental, and with a few too many older man/younger woman pairings. And I’m always disappointed in Laura Linney’s character. Do the hot guy, for god’s sake!!

      You’re not alone. It was just so relentlessly twee, except for the elderly rocker and even he turned twee at the end. And every intimate proposal, kiss or revelation had to be enacted in public as though it couldn’t be real if it happened with no-one looking. Although the PM singing a carol was cute, I admit. But still twee.

      Yeah but you know what? It’s a MOVIE… not a documentary. I love it to pieces and tolerate the parts that aren’t knocking my socks off. What gets to me the most, though, is the actual real people (i.e. not actors) at the airport greeting each other. When I go to the airport that’s what I”m looking for – reunions just outside the security gate, or down at baggage claim. For this reason I keep my jacket pockets stuffed with Kleenex every time I am at the airport.

      I agree with you so much that liking your comment was not enough. Most movies I hate I can nevertheless understand why some people like them. Love Actually and The Hangover are the biggest exceptions that come to mind.

So it really should have been called “Lust, Actually.” I left it wondering just what kind of relationship the doltish writer had with his wife, since he didn’t believe heterosexuals actually talk to one another when they’re falling in love.

Well, she kind of did. The flights leave London at night and arrive at LAX in the morning. And I’m sure she flies 1st class, so she gets to put on the free PJs and sleep in the little ‘pods’ – not like the rest of us peasants back in coach, trying to sleep in our cramped seats, awash in our own filth.

yeah well when you fly first class it’s not too hard to do that. I got bumped to business class on a transatlantic flight and I had a three course gourmet meal, a chair that went all the way flat so I could sleep, comfy pillows and blankets, and access to a full bar for free.

They probably have a full day spa in first class.

I realize that the climate if very different in London and LA. But, the skirt does not work for me. It is summery and flouncy, and the rest is winter. Perhaps a nice pair of slacks, or a dark skirt, more in line with the rest of the outfit would have been ice.

Here’s a question that the other BK’s might not have the answer to but I’m kind of curious-

When we see these starlets carrying the Most Expensive New Bag while running errands, or at the airport, is it just because they get sent all these bags and the designers just hope they’ll use them and the paparazzi will catch it?

Or are these orchestrated PR events, and Keira and her publicist/stylist/assistant know she is scheduled to wear this specific bag on this date at the airport, and was given the bag just for the event and she has to give it back when she’s done? Is it sometimes both? Neither?
