Miss Gwen is ringing in the new year on the cover of Vogue, all sexy-matador-style.

Is it me, or does her head look a little flattened out, kind of photoshop-distorted on the cover?
The clothes are gorgeous; I adore the tuxedo jacket and vest.

  That is EXTREMELY poor typeface placement. This is what graphic designers are for! Shouldn’t have kept the hat on her, I was seriously wondering if they chopping off half her skull.

  That messed me up, too, especially since the type goes in front of the hat, and behind the head. Kind of messy page layout.

    You nailed it. Some graphic designer thought they had a clever solution … putting the title type between the hat and her head. But it just makes the hat look like it’s not a hat, and her head look like a portion of it is missing. Design FAIL. (I’m a graphic designer, and have art-directed magazines. I can see trying that out, but I can’t see not realizing that it didn’t work.)

      I didn’t even realize it was a hat. That explains why it looks like she has such a tiny cranium.

      I think this a lot looking at photo layouts. I know time is often a big issue, and I’m not knowledgeable enough to realize all the trade offs in play, but still.

She looks great..of course.. she’s Gwen Stefani. But is anyone else having trouble with the hat on the cover? It doesn’t read as ‘hat on her head.’ It reads as ‘black graphic on the cover.’ Perhaps it’s a personal depth perception problem I’m having.

It’s a great outfit but a terrible cover. Her head looks distorted and I really don’t want to see someone’s crotch practically dead center even if it’s covered by trousers.

With that cover pose all I can see is Lluvy crouching in a tire. “Does that feel sexy to you?” Completely bizarre choice to put the title between her hair and her hat. It looks like part of her head is missing. Not crazy about the look, either. #VogueFail

The shoes on the cover are just weird. It’s as if she’s wearing eye patches on her ankles.

I covet everything in the 2nd look though, especially that vest. Now that’s a vest that belongs on us small-busted gals!

I … just don’t like this. I think her hair is bad on the cover, and the hat makes everything flat. Sure, the jacket is gorge, but she’s done way better.

The cover selection is odd, like others have mentioned. I didn’t see the hat originally and thought they had squished her head. But even now that I see the hat the cover still looks weird–she looks worried or anxious. The inside picture looks great. She looks fantastic in these outfits.

The clothes are epic, especially the jacket – but it took me an uncomfortably long moment to realize that was a hat. Between the unfortunate pose and the foreshortening, they made a gorgeous woman remind me of a frog and now I can’t unsee it.

Why that second shot wasn’t the cover, I’ll never know.

for the longest time i thought the hat in the cover shot was actually a hole in the wall behind her, and that Vogue had done some seriously weird photoshopping on her head… now that i see they didn’t, she looks fabulous!

In both cases I think she carries the outfit better than the model. It doesn’t hurt that the Vogue stylist gets something really amazing out of those pussy bows. The proportions and layering of the scarves makes them much more interesting and flattering than they have a right to be.
