    Absolutely true. Part of surrealism’s gig is to an object having characteristics that is not true of that object. Playing with size, scale, dreams, etc. Not just color.

Yeah–I was trying to figure out what was surreal about them at all. I’ll grant, surreal photography would be difficult, because so much of surrealism is about truly bizarre images, but if you’re going to use Photoshop anyway, go crazy. Take the last pose. She could easily have become the figurehead on the prow of a ship sailing through a forest of sample sale racks or something. I mean, yes, that’s dippy, but at least it approaches surreal, and I’m not the one planning a surreal layout. The thing about surrealism is that the images are more than what they are, and you just have to keep looking at them to see the whole thing. I’m pretty much good at one viewing here.

The clothes are all gorgeous and age appropriate. The special effects are kind of yawn, and she herself isn’t giving much face either other than deer-in-the-headlight. But totally enjoyable just for the clothes.

Some rich kid goofed off in art school and didn’t bother learning Photoshop, got this editorial job through his parent’s networks and now is trying to implement a philosophy of ‘simplicity’ with a throwback to the 80′s as an anchor to this new digital art movement of ‘simplicity’.

I like them but the thing I like the most is that it hasn’t been all smoothed out and airbrushed on her body (I see a few lumps and bumps – in the fabric not in her body I’m sure). You can also see the clothes – most of which I like). I’m fine with it.

Anyway, beyond the word nitpicking, I think this is kind of interesting. I also think that generally she makes a pretty good model.

If the purpose is to showcase clothing, then the editorial fails. However, as an expression of art it is legitimate. She is certainly committed in the photos. The third photo is particularly compelling.

It would have been enough to scribble on 2 or 3 pics. I didn’t think the added magic marker element was sufficient to
call the results “surreal”. I would’ve liked to have seen more of what Elle was wearing – especially that peacock-thing.
(look – she’s got CM’s deconstructed straight jacket dress on; that WAS a surreal design. But I thought CM wore it well.)

can i say. it’s pretty (for the most part), and interesting (for the better half). but it’s nothing i couldn’t have done with a mediocre looking girl in my sophomore year graphic illustration class when we were learning how to use a tablet. she is not beautiful (she is bland), and the technique isn’t anything i haven’t seen before. but i love the motion and the colors, so ever upward, Bullet. i guess.
