I SO love her hair right now. I really thought she would whack hair extensions in as soon as she could but this is really working for her, it’s great!
Totally agree. Her stylist is doing a kick-ass job letting it grow but re-working the style as it progresses. It is just perfect right now. I hope she keeps it this way for awhile. Very chic.
I totally agree on her stylist. It reminds me of how well Emma Watson’s stylist kept up with her growing hair.
That dress looks like an Etsy project gone awry.
totally, it looks like some “upcycled” Etsy project, it just needs an owl or some reference to steampunk….
Um, Annie? No. Just plain, no. The cape coat is silly looking, and the frankendress is not your friend. While the bodice is cute, and works for your coloring, the skirt, just looks a right mess.
Pretty much. It looks like its cobbled together from workroom scraps.
“Frankenskirt”, Love that! that will keep me smiling for hours! All the posing is getting on my nerves!
Agreed! The skirt/bustier combo looks much better on the model…don’t like that the skirt is both high-waisted and below the knee & I think she added a belt which doesn’t help. Is she still being styled by Rachel Zoe, cuz lately there have been more misses than hits.
The color combo on the model looks like a dress while the combo on Anne is more mis-matched seperates. Although, I don’t thing the ochre scheme would have worked on Anne at all.
Precisely, comme d’habitude.
I j’adore the bodice, but the skirt is ick.
Her hair looks good here. It works for her only when it’s puffed up a little and her bangs are arranged around her face as seen here. Her outfit is just plain silly looking and her makeup always looks sort of damp and blurry.
The cape looks foolish, but everything else is really nice. Well, now that I look a little closer, I’m not really loving the skirt either.
CAPE. SHE IS WEARING A CAPE. OR A CAPLET.
I think I love this by default.
I love the cape, but I don’t’ feel it’s well deployed here.
I think it’d work better if it were shorter. But I still can’t rag on someone who showed up in a CAPE.
“I am glancing at my pumps, darlings, so you cannot miss that I matched them to my fabulous cape. This is to distract you from my ill-conceived skirt.”
While I love the bodice, the rest is a down right mess. The skirt is just way over done.
That bodice made me love this on first glance and the cape is a nice touch of drama as sobaika notes above. But as my fellow bks have noted the skirts wonky and the cape’s too long
But really im here to ask if anybody is as frustrated as me with her apparent choice to forego any and all jewelry nowadays?? Honey with short hair jewels are a must. We need some pop to frame the face and make the cut -which is cute on its own- move from just cute into fierceness.
Ever since you guys predicted the impending Anne Hathaway backlash I can’t look at her the same way.
That skirt is making me dizzy.
I love the whole look top to bottom. Especially the cape. And I really think she looks more beautiful with her face done with less make-up as in these pictures.
That bodice is amazing. It’s holding her boobs perfectly. Don’t think I’ve seen such a perfect fitting bodice in a long time. I need to find this piece in real life to look at the construction.
I’m confused about my feelings regarding the skirt.
Not for the RC!
I think her hair looks really lovely. The outfit is fine but it draws attention to how truly thin she is for her frame right now. This doesn’t feel natural for her which makes me uncomfortable and it confuses me. I feel like I’m getting mixed messages from her about body image. It’s distracting me from the clothing.
“I feel like I’m getting mixed messages from her about body image.”
What do you mean?
I think what Mary is trying to say (and correct me if I’m wrong, Mary) is that Anne has been very outspoken about how difficult her training and diet regiments were to be prepared for the role of Fantine, and that she does not advise such sacrifices beyond the scope of her work. She has also repeatedly said that she cares more about divulging in things she likes to eat rather then being skinny (yes, standard Hollywood starlet talk, I know). However, her frame still appears closer to her Fantine frame, rather than how she has looked in the past. I agree with Sobaika that I tend to tread lightly when discussing a woman’s body, and perhaps Anne just prefers her body this way. I think she looks beautiful, and while I wasn’t sold on her hair when she first cut it, I love how it looks now.
Pretty much. Believe me, this isn’t something I want to talk about. But I actually gasped when I saw the side view of the pictures. I’m just confused. How is this not a glamorization of a starvation diet at this point? It makes me uncomfortable.
To be honest I wish all the celebs on this would stop talking about how they lost weight for this role. Especially when they specifically state what they did to lose the weight. I find that to be dangerously close to instructions for an ED.
I’m of two minds on this. I hate it when every actress plays pretend (I just ate 10 cheeseburgers, these jacked arms are just from carrying my kids all day!) but there’s an uncomfortable fascination that a lot of people seem to have when women lose weight for a role as opposed to men – there’s about triple the reporting on Anne’s weight than say, Christian Bale for The Machinist.
yes but I’ve heard Hugh Jackman say on more than one chat show how he lost his weight and also Russel Crowe may be promoting the movie he has out now, but I’ve heard him also speak on his weight loss for the movie. I would rather them all say that yes, they lost weight for the movie and leave it at that. The very specific details of what they ate which I have heard on more than one occasion is what I find dangerous.
Yes, this exactly. I believe it was Christina Ricci who admitted that the made-for-TV movie about anorexia starring Tracey Gold was like her how-to manual.
Oh I remember her saying that.
It ::is:: a how-to guide. And it just strikes me as upsetting because you can’t have it both ways. There are people out there with real problems that stem from their body image and this glamorization and “reward” for starving your body down makes me sad and uncomfortable.
I mean that for years she created an image where she slammed the Hollywood pressure to be super thin even going so far as to promote herself as a role model in that vein. She’s also talked openly about the dangerous things she did to lose the weight for these films and and spoken of her obsession to be thin to fit into the Catsuit. So yes…she confuses me.
I tend to stay away from body talk, but I do think it’s odd that she had two body-conscious roles (Catwoman + Fantine) and hasn’t returned to her usual frame yet. Maybe she likes it this way, or wants to keep it up through awards season?
I believe she also follows a vegan diet so that may be playing apart in the slower regain of weight.
I stay away from it unless it’s making me actually uncomfortable. Which here…it is. I think a woman has the right to do whatever she needs to do with her body an I appreciate bodies of all sizes. But Anne confuses me right now.
I LOVE this. Also, there were much more flattering pics of the cape over at Go Fug Yourself.
I could see it as trying to fight the notion that short, pixie cut hair + thin physique = drafty, airy little garments all the time – but I don’t think this works as an alternative. She appears to be trying to wear heavily structured, highly stylized pieces when, here for once, the simplest little black skirt would have been all that was needed to turn heads. I really like the top but the skirt drags the attention away from everything else…like an armored groom at a wedding.
CAPE! I SO love capes. This one needs to be fuller, though…it’s like they didn’t have enough fabric. At the shoulders it looks a little like an NFL cape.
But still, props for deploying the cape!
I love how the skirt looks like a zoom-in on the crotch of pants. The waistband looks like a tab closure and the seeming mimics the shape of the fabric that covers a zipper on most pants. The whole look is a big ol’ IN.
Two words: Boob Box.
The cape is so…trying to be fierce. One thing I do like is that she make the skirt herself. Atta girl.
Love the cape, skirt and shoes. Hate the top. It looks supremely uncomfortable.
I dig it.
I can’t argue with any of the comments about the cape or skirt. But what I like the most here is the fit of the top. SOOOO many times this kind of top is doing horrid things to the wearer – too tight, too low. But this seems perfectly fitted. All these darker blues she’s been wearing look amazing on her.
Love the top and the cape, it’s a shame that the skirt is focus pulling.
love everything from the waist up but that is a frankenskirt
I like the top, but what is going ON with the seaming and weave of the skirt? It’s making my eyes twitch!
She’s way too thin now. Don’t get the outfit at all and what’s the skirt material? It looks like denim.
They are all still pretty thin from filming this. I think hers is the most noticeable because as a female when she dresses for the RC she’s literally more exposed, and she lost more weight than her male costars.
I like each individual piece but I don’t like them together. The skirt just doesn’t go. Looks like she’s been at the office all day and forgot to get completely changed.
I love it but I see that I am not in the majority. I think it’s chic and interesting. I like the bustier fabric especially. I also love the cape which, with something less edgy, might look too prescious but looks fun with this simple silhouette.
You just know she wants to say,”Gimme my damned coat.”
It does look like one of those day to night dresses, doesn’t it?
Love it, although the skirt looks a little weird!!
I love the bodice, but I’m not liking the way that the skirt looks sort of half-assed. And I sort of love the cape.
I like this dress. The cape is awful. However, that may be a matter of local taste. It may be quite chic in London, who knows?
I like the idea of a cape, but I don’t like this particular one, which looks more like a jacket that someone forgot to put sleeves on. Also, a heavy outer garment over a glorified tube top just looks silly.
The skirt looks like something brilliant Mondo might have created from several dead pairs of green denim jeans (but not for this occassion).
Love the bustier fabric, wish we could see more of the cape.
Question: is there going to be a Paris premier or is this no big deal there since it wasn’t sung in French? (I do have a CD from a French production and it’s a good listen). But I wonder if the French will be a snit since they didn’t make this into a movie?
I’m not loving that skirt. It looks so thick and randomly patched together. I prefer they way they’re hiding the waistband under the bustier on the model. (Tucking in a bustier. I just… really? I don’t know what to make of that.)
The cape is a bit much. Although…..maybe if it was shorter, it would have a chic retro feel to it. I’m not in love with the skirt; something is off with it.
I’m hoping this is an exciting pole dance for Anne. She’s worn some discussion-worthy dresses thus far!
Oh my—a shiny blue cape. I LOVE IT. Ok, I can’t argue with skirt issues. But I love this and I think if the skirt were a few inches shorter it would solve a lot of problems. She looks amazing.
Love the color/print of the bodice. The DTM bridesmaid shoes wound, however.
I am having trouble telling what the shoe color is and what the skirt portion is made out of, but I am liking this, head to toe. And that CAPE! Sorry, kittens, I kind of like all of it on her.
She really needs to eat. Now.
I LOVE capes, but I do not like this cape at all. The last thing a cape should be is clumsy and awkward; this one looks stiff and hard to wear, and not nicely shaped.
The bodice of her outfit is gorgeous. The skirt, not — it’s a frankenskirt and doesn’t work with the top.
Pretty dress, especially in the blue she chose. That is a kick ass cape. Love her short hair. Looking at the side picture, especially of her shoulders, it seems she’s still working to get back to her pre-Les Mis weight.
Who dressed Portman for her Oscar heist? Anne should contact said person immediately. Her hair is finally looking settled. I like the shoe color with this dress, but that is just about the only compliment I can muster. I like the idea of the cape, but this shiny, boxy one just doesn’t seem right for a red carpet.
That dress is a disaster. Patchy, crumpled skirt over awkwardly proportioned bodice. Ugly underpinnings.
was she forced into wearing this? There are ligature marks on her ankles. ~blink~
I’d like to think she had a really warm pair of socks on with some slouchy/comfy shoes on in the limo and slipped out of them and into heels just as she exited. At least, that’s what my ankles look like when I do same.
This is a WERQ for our Miss Anne! The dress is cute, hair and makeup is perfect and that cape is killer!
Wish I liked the bottom half of the dress better; cuz everything else is beautiful. I can’t figure out what the design is doing -
it almost looks like it has belt loops missing a belt.
I. Love. This. I want to be her when I grow up.
The hair, makeup, and outfit (cape included, of course) are all gorgeous. Hope she’s eating well again and can get back to a healthier looking weight! No more Fontine-skinniness needed Anne! Eat, girl!
however she needs to eat more than just her two oatmeal cakes a day now that Les Mis is over
Right? I thought she looked thinner than I’d remembered… Homegirl needs to get her some potato chips!
The outfit does fit her beautifully though. (Not body-snarking, I pinky swear.)
Her hair looks fucking awesome, but she looks TOO skinny!
Wow–so much better without the coat. . .
That cape thing is just de trop.
I’d like a better shot of the cape. Though if that is a good shot, I am disappointed in it. SHE is marvelous. Dress works for her but nothing to excite.
I love her style… She looks lovely.
That cape! Reminds me of something from an old Missy Elliott video. It’s trying to disguise the fact the designer made the skirt from scraps. Bodice color is gorgeous on her, though.
If I were her gay I’d lose the cape and replace it with a really elegant motorcycle jacket; I’d give her a nice hunk of jewelry, probably a bracelet; and I’d do a much better job of hiding the Hollywood tape on her boobs. Otherwise, she looks amazing.
The skirt looks poorly executed which makes me conflicted because it’s otherwise a great outfit minus the cape (she can’t really pull off capes and she seems too smug)
