I’m not crazy about her hair but she looks very Greek Goddessy.
I get more of a sari-vibe from it. I think she looks very Bollywood (and I say that as a compliment, because those women are flawless).
I was just thinking it looks like a take-off of the sari. She looks beautiful!!
waaaay to tight, love the color!
she looks lumpy.
Exactly what I was thinking–it gives La Cruz lumps and bumps where she shouldn’t (and maybe doesn’t) have them. Gorgeous color on her, though.
Beautiful color on her.
Unflattering as hell, this looks like an 80′s bridesmaid’s gown.
Complete agreement. Does the 80′s qualify for vintage now?
I’m afraid it does. Doesn’t vintage = anything over 30 years old? By that measure better than 70% of my wardrobe’s vintage, but this is def. too tight, making her look large when she’s absolutely not. If it were skimming the body, rather than pinching her waist, the effect would be perfect.
I was going 80′s prom dress, but same difference.
Gorgeous color on her. But the dress is all kinds of lumpy and bumpy, and the transition from draped part into the skirt is awkward; just looks like they ran out of thread or something.
It’s a lovely gown and she’s a lovely woman.
I feel like for a woman her height, it looks a bit fussy – a bit too evocative of a gay ’90s pocket Venus look. (even thought the gown is certainly not a literal 1890s reference.)
Is she super tall? I don’t really think of her being that way.
No – she’s super tiny.
hardest working zipper in hollywood, er…. rome.
Was thinkin’ the same thing!
What everyone else said.
Great color, but it is definitely looking like it doesn’t fit right. Maybe a belt would help?
Must be a boring movie because she clearly brought her blankie to the premiere…. or maybe it’s a giant floppy flannel clutch???? Just weird…
That dress does the impossible and makes her look short and dumpy. No, no, no.
Oh, but I love the color. Can I have it?
The color is spectacular on her. From the waist up the dress is pretty and I like the one-shoulder look on her. However, from the waist down the fit of the dress is questionable. Perhaps some shaping undergarments would have been advisable given the reflective quality of the fabric. Finally, I am not in love with the skirt. I think this would have looked better as a cocktail-length dress.
She looks like a packed ham and while that color looks great on her, I think it would be best served in a smaller dose, like a skirt or top.
The “seams along her silhouette” are no doubt the boning in her corset.
Ug. That’s a scroll-down fug. All was great until about knee length and then it just looks like she’s unravelling.
I like it all! Pretty.
This make her look wide. So, that’s a fail. If a dress can make a being that nears perfection look wide, fail.
A half-assed look if there ever was one. Yoga hair with vintage Versace?!
Vintage Versace? It looks more like David’s Bridal to me.
That’s a strong color; I think some larger earrings would have balanced the look. The wrap is plebian- something more upscale is needed for the RC.
Gorgeous color, but not for her. The style, DEFINITELY not for her (or maybe anyone).
Exactly what I was going to say about the color. It especially fights with her bronzer and other makeup colors.
Hellaciously unflattering. It takes a lot to make Penelope look like she has the figure of a tree stump, but this manages to do so.
If my husband was a world class designer, I would never wear vintage anything. It must be boring to have so much. Chuckle, chuckle.
That being said, she looks great.
Did Javier Bardem become a world class designer without me knowing it?
are you thinking of Salma Hayek whose hubby owns a hella lot of world class designers??
I must have gotten them mixed up. Oops.
Wow, that is unflattering. Love the color but nothing else. And is it just me or do her eyebrows look unmatched?
When did she morph from voluptuous to flat chested?
The color is so very good on her, but ouch to her chest.
Gorgeous….love the color!
Of course (Penelope flavor).
Meaning: pretty color, bared shoulders, fitted body and hip, mermaid hem.
Not her best, but the formula works for her.
Very unflattering on her for some reason. It makes her look thick.
I thought the same thing. The color is lovely, but the cut is not great on her.
The color is stunning but something about the way the sleeve is fitted isn’t working for me. Also, her hair looks messy. Such a pretty lady but I’m just not loving this.
I believe it was Donna Karan who had a “rusching” phase in the 80′s but, recognizing that the technique adds inches to the sillouette, she shaped and directed it in areas over a built-in foundation gown to accentuate the form and planes of the figure and make it more voluptuous…this just looks like a tightly wound cocoon of Easter Blue Saran Wrap. Penelope gives it a good try, but even Marylin couldn’t have made this work.
And just because it’s “vintage” doesn’t make it fab.
The shawl baffles me, but it’s a great color.
This should look incredible, but I’m getting a nice Indian granny vibe.
I don’ love it on her, but it’s a gorgeous dress–and “vintage” is always a plus. Great dresses deserve long lives.
This does absolutely nothing for her. Pretty color though. But not on her.
Pretty dress, needs to comb her hair and wear a different non platform shoe. Let some one hold her wrap while she’s taking picture.
The bottom ruffle truly looks like it was taken from a different dress. Remove all that, straighten the hem, add a not quite choker necklace or a sparkling bracelet, and cute shoes and lose the wrap.
Necklace designers must be going nuts, you rarely see them on the RC or the street anymore. I love a unique necklace, especially artisan made, with semi-precious stones and forged metal. But…Penelope is beautiful in this color with her coppery skin tone.
Way too matronly for her age.
That gown could have its own horror movie: The Thickening
Beautiful color but I don’t like one-shoulder anything. And am I wrong, or is she wearing some sort of weird corset or a truss (!) underneath? She’s far from stick thin – hooray – but this is just bulging in all the wrong places.
It looks tight and lumpy, but I like the idea of it…rather “princess in India” ish.
She needs better foundation garments. Unless you’re supposed to see where her underwear sits on her waist. It’s really not supposed to look like that, is it??
Yes, her body is better than most of the female population out there… of course!!! That being said, with a dress this tight, you better damn make sure your body is ABSOLUTELY perfect, hers is not. As such, she just ends up looking oddly lumpy, and self-consciously aware that her body may burst out of the dress at any moment.
I am not feeling this…looks like a cheap and tight toga AND what is with that pashmina???
Whatever’s worse than “afterthought” – that’s the tragic lower third of her gown. It looks as if Versace got tired of crimping the fabric and just tacked on some remnant that was lying around.
Too bad, because it’s a most striking/flattering color on Miss Cruz.
Did she give birth recently? She looks it.
