Kristen Stewart makes an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno’ in a Peter Pilotto dress.

See, ever since we started commenting on red carpet and celebrity fashion, we’ve bemoaned their collective fear of things like color and pattern. Lately, that’s changed – and it’s served as a wonderful illustration of why celebs tend to avoid them: because so much can go wrong when you wander away from neutral solids. We give her a lot of credit for making the attempt, but we really hope NBC ran a seizure warning during the breaks. And the seaming is really awkward here; it’s actually working against her body, camoufluging her natural shape.

Also: her hair kind of looks like shit, although her makeup is pretty.

  Her hair looks like shit BUT it looks like clean and kind of fluffy shit, which is surely a win? The dress is definitely a standing up dress, but she’s got her legs crossed so tightly there is no way she is flashing. Definitely the right way to go if you HAVE to wear a dress so short.

I actually kinda like this. Maybe not for TV, but she’s pulling it off. The hair is always my issue with her. What is the point of looking so polished when you can’t be bothered to make the hair match?

  I think that’s one of my peeves in general, when there is a vast difference in the level or formality or effort that goes into hair, makeup, and attire. I see teens with a full face of makeup, but wearing sweats. Or then there’s my real estate agent friend who must spend an hour shoveling makeup on to her face, then she goes out the door with her hair in a messy knot and clothes that have never seen an iron. Consistency, people!

    Everyone should just listen to me all the time. I am careful about what I eat so my skin is healthy – make up only to accent. And find a hair style and hair routine that plays with the natural qualities of hair rather than straightening and curling. So I have time to put on real clothes.

I don’t care much for the dress itself, but she’s pulling it off about as well as anyone possibly could I guess.

I like the dress – the pattern’s cool. The shoes don’t really work for me though. And the sloppy ponytail….**sigh**…I’m pretty sure on ‘The Tonight Show’ they have a decent hair stylist that could’ve helped her with something better….unless that’s what they came up with…..dearie me!

I like the dress quite a bit, actually, but the point about it being too much for TV is well taken. I could be okay with the sloppy ponytail, even, if it didn’t have the loose strand (it IS KStew, after all). What I really dislike is the shoe choice; which isn’t to say they aren’t a perfectly acceptable pair of shoes, just that this dress is begging for a more interesting, edgier shoe. That, an extra inch on the hem, and maybe a pair of earrings and I would feel like this is a pretty good look for her.

I think it’s a great dress, executed in a hideous print that does nothing but distract from all the nice details; neckline treatment, cap sleeves, waist details and kicky skirt. Her hair? If you’re not going to bother, at least cover it with a scarf. It offends.

I love the way she looks here–kind of wish there was a category for “Not your typical look & don’t try it every day but very fun way of mixing it up.” And while I’d like to see an inch or 2 more at the hem, the width of the skirt kept this from being too embarrassing–but she is kind of holding it down as she sits, isn’t she?

Y’all are ridiculous! She looks fantastic! That dress is so eye catching! It definitely appeals to a younger audience. She just has this easy, effortless appeal to her. She doesn’t need to have a slick hairdo to look great. As a 21 year old, I think she looks fabulous! I don’t think the seaming effect is bad.

Her hair always kind of looks like shit, so this is nothing new. The dress is awful, but it’s youthful and not slutty. She seems to be practicing facial expressions other than “hostile” and “bored”. I didn’t see the show, but based on these pictures I’d say it’s a win for her.

At least she’s trying I give her that. Her yoga hair is laughable but that’s dear delightful Kristen Stewart! Even tho I’ve been a fan of Twilight lo these many years I have to say I will be glad not to see her awkward body language as much anymore. I hate this dress. It reminds me too strongly of “home sewn from bargain priced remnants” when money is tight. And there’s something about the proportions on both Ms. Stewart & the model that makes me think there wasn’t enough fabric to make the dress as long as intended.

That one can see that the dress is artfully and very intentionally assembled, not just pieced together as best as one could to eke out the material, doesn’t correct the impression. I still HATE this dress.

Oddly enough, this is perhaps my favorite look of hers – possibly because she actually seems happy for a change, but also because the kicky little dress seems to suit her, and her hair, while on the messy side, doesn’t bug me nearly as much as the too-high make-my-head-look-way-too-long style in that last IN/OUT entry on her.

I love this look! but I agree it’s not for tv. If she were making an appearance at an event where she might be photographed, then yes. Not only is the print a little hard on the eyes watching HD but her hair is better suited to a party appearance somewhere where the that ponytail might look more artfully mussed rather than just plain old mussed. Still, I like this more than her last featured outfit by far.
