Dakota Fanning covers the December 2012 issue of InStyle magazine photographed by Karen Collins.

We bet Chloe Moretz and Hailee Steinfeld are SEETHING over that “Hollywood’s youngest star” blurb; not to mention her own sister. We foresee lifelong rivalries in the “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” mold.

On dating and being single: “You know, I’m not the kind of girl or person who really wants boyfriends in my life. I’m also the kind of person…I’m very black and white in what I feel and I don’t wanna be with someone that I don’t foresee spending a long time with.”

On staying sane: “Why have I been able to stay sane in a sometimes insane world? The pure love of what I do. Making movies.”

She looks beautiful in both looks, but we think it’s kind of funny how often stylists for magazines default to the ultra-feminine, virginal, princess-y looks for her. Sure, her looks practically beg for that kind of style, but it’s clear from the way she dresses when she’s on her own that it’s not her thing at all. The Cavalli look has a little more edge than the Chanel, though; which must be why we like it so much more on her. Love the cat ears.

It’s not her fault but I find it weird when young stars define themselves in such definitive ways. Then again, who didn’t think the had it ALL FIGURED OUT at that age?.
