Cover Girl: Rihanna for GQ Magazine

If there’s one thing we hate – and there isn’t – it’s being cast against our will in the role of “prissy, middle-aged homosexuals.” We are proudly homosexuals and resigned to being considered middle-aged, but dammit, we are NOT prissy. We are NOT! We are stamping our feet in a fit of pique right now!

But girl?

Oh this is not hot, this is just nasty. In fact I’m a bit surprised that GQ did this. This feels more like a Maxim cover, or even a Playboy cover. I’d have preferred she do like Kiera did and have on unbuttoned men’s pants. It’s the hint of sex that is hot, when it’s all just out there, that’s just skanky ho’.

  Ouch is right. That area would be so absolutely painful. And the girls would have to be held up or out. Not convenient for either the person getting or giving the tattoo. But after hearing true life tattoo tales, this area is probably a breeze to ink. And I can guarantee that is not a spot I will have done.

      But doesn’t she have to take some responsibility for doing a shoot with only one item of clothing on? That doesn’t just happen–the “styling” is that she’s naked. She’s way too media savvy to get a pass on this. She’s in charge of her image, no one else. And this is the image she’s choosing to portray. GQ/Maxim/Playboy–it doesn’t really matter whose cover it is, she’s the one agreeing to it–just like Cammie and Nicole in their sexed up glory that T Lo pointed out some weeks ago. In this case she’s behaving as an object and she knows it. It’s not about blame so much as disappointment that she feels the need to go buck naked on a magazine cover, and how inappropriate it is for the general audience (I seriously keep thinking of a 6-year old seeing it at a grocery store and it grosses me out). But I don’t really expect much more from any of the laddie mags, sadly.

Many, many years ago, covers far less risqué than this were kept behind the counter or wrapped in brown paper so the little ones (and the prissy ones) did not have to see. Does that still happen? Or are she and her tattoos just hanging out at the market with the Christmas cookies?

I’m more grossed out in GQ than I am in her. It’s not the first time they’ve done nude women (because women aren’t allowed to wear clothes at GQ).
