Darlings, we’ve been remiss in bringing you a Pretty of the Day in order to get you all centered and serene and shit. Allow us to rectify. With Vogue China, a buttload of couture, and a title like “Simply Elegant,” there’s not much left for us to say, is there?

I love it all… except the Versache dresses. They look like prom dresses crafted for some Texas oil tycoon’s daughter.

The voluminous white dress made me burst out laughing.

Nothing against the dress (which is beautiful), of course, but the way it UTTERLY CONSUMES the models is just hilarious.

Those Gaultier dresses are out.of.this.world, but this mostly leaves me feeling cold. For the most part, it looks like they shipped the runway models straight onto the set for the shoot, snapped a couple of poses and sent them on their way (I’m still not certain that the trio in the Dior dresses *arent* the same as the runway models). No creativity or interpretation whatsoever.

That black velvet Armani creation is straight out of a ’30s movie. Jean Harlow, or Carole Lombard, or really any of those gorgeous ladies would have looked stunning in it. (I’m thinking more the sleeveless one than the illusion-sleeved one). The Gaultiers are just plain fun! the Valentinos–Valentini?–are oddly frumpy. Dior should leave tie-dyeing to the hippies. Versace, as always, leaves me cold.

  As far as I remember the models in Vogue China are usually Chinese, with the exception of editorials with Hollywood actresses or something like that. But looking at the article I found it interesting that everyone working on the shot (stylist, phtographer) seems to be non-Chinese. Maybe its something they bought from elsewhere? Maybe an editorial that was made for a Sister publication but for some reason not printed? I don’t know, but to me it seems pretty common for local editions of the same magazine to reuse the editorials of others. I sometimes see covers on German magazines that I remember seeing somewhere else a few months ago.

The black Valentino and Armani dresses aren’t photographed that well, all the interesting details are not visible. I LOVE the Gaultier dresses (not the colour palette though) they look like sketches come to life. That last Valentino dress with the pleats is gorgeous!

Thank you China Vogue! This editorial is a well needed breath of fresh air. Loving the pretty here. I see dresses recently worn by Jennifer Lawrence and Julianna Margulies. Only Julianna’s fares well in comparison to the models. My favorites have to be the Gaultier dresses. They just make me smile for some reason.

The tie dye Diors in the first shot remind me of some of Christian Siriano’s dresses from a few years ago, where he had the beautiful firey sunset print.

I’m a little disappointed that they’re letting the clothes do all the work. Why not just assemble a bunch of runway photos? (And yes, I was expecting to see more Asian models. If Chinese models can’t get work in their own country, where are they gonna get work?)

The Givenchy is wearing the model, but I am in undying love with the Gaultier dresses/shot and I will take the Giambattista Valli for my own wardbrobe. Love the slick hair, clean faces, and pointed toes with these bold looks.

Nothing says “simply elegant” like a “buttload of couture!” I’ll take any of the Armani, Chanel & Gaultier. The Dior “tie dyes” look very cheap.

There is something about the way that the Asian Vogues style their editorials that I find so much more interesting and flat more beautiful. That Armani blue gown is just stunning.

I mean, I understand sometimes beauty doesn’t need to be overcomplicated and some spreads can look wonderful with the models just standing. But…this was an incredibly boring spread. NOTHING is going on. It literally feels like the photographer said, okay models stand here and I’ll take some quick photos. The photos puts those dresses to shame because those are beautiful dresses.

After about a second I realized that the model in the first Giambattista Valli photo was not wearing a chandelier hat.

I wish the Dior dresses didn’t have those vertical streaks. The ones on the first, brown dress especially remind me of bird droppings.

I would only coin about half of these looks as “elegant”. Tie dye & bustier gowns plus the Alice in Wonderland giddyups don’t fit that description, IMO. But what do I know?

This might seem crazy, but I’m kind of thinking that with a very simple dress, the right hair, and the right one selected, one of those Armani Prive bejeweled face coverings would be an exceptional veil for a bride… Just saying.
