I disagree. I think she is way too overindulgent in her princess fantasy, but she appears to be a sweet, genuine person in interviews. Regardless of whether I like her or not, I think this and most of the comments are a bit much. It’s perfectly fine to have your celebrity hate list (and I certainly do) but they seem personally directed at her far more than the outfits. Calling her a “bitch” just feels uncalled for.

  First of all I was more addressing the comments than you directly. It seemed like today especially the comments (and yes, some of the posts) were bordering on mean. Of course people in the public eye come off as ridiculous, and of course it’s funny or I wouldn’t read the site, but I think it’s disingenuous to say it’s alien to bullying. Many people hurt themselves for many reasons that make them feel ostracized. It’s a line that be easily crossed and if I point it out it’s because it’s worth thinking about how espousing a mean attitude (as opposed to a teasing one, which is what I usually see) can foster the same sort of feelings of worthlessness that DO cause people to feel terrible about themselves. If you don’t agree, then of course it’s your site and it’s your perogative.

      Also, I get really irritated when people do the virgin and Mary magdalene thing with Taylor. It’s a gross oversimplification of who she is and how she feels about so-called sluts. She’s friends with a whole bunch of allegedly ‘slutty’ people like Miley Cyrus. She only gets angry at ‘sluts’ when they’re trying to use sex to get actor roles/stealing her boyfriend/controlling the guy she likes while the girl cheats on him. If you’ve ever seen her in concert she definitely embraces being sexy, and certainly doesn’t pretend to be wholly virginal.
      
      Yes, her songs are not always empowering, and can have a slant of ‘waiting for a guy to make the move’, which annoys me as much as the next person, but I don’t think you can generalise that to being a disingenuous bully.
      
      Regardless, I think a lot of these comments tend towards the mean-spirited, more so than the comments on other articles, about who she is and not about her clothes, which bothers me that I even have to defend her here. I’m even fine with people not liking her, but you don’t need to go around calling her a ‘bitch’ as some people here have been.

      Her breakup songs are one sided from the point of view of a scorned woman. Her alleging that someone used to sex to steal her boyfriend is not Gospel. My comments are mostly regarding “You Belong With Me” which use short skirts, high heels, and being a cheerleader as reasons why the boy shouldn’t be with his girlfriend and with Taylor instead.
      
      And what the hell does it matter to Taylor how someone gets their roles? She’s worth millions upon millions of dollars. There are hundreds of more talented singers who deserve their success as much as she does and haven’t been lucky enough to get their foot in the door.

    Sorry, but I just have to say – as someone who was bullied for many years, there is a world of difference between poking fun or stating annoyance at celebrities on a website (which most of them have no clue about anyway), and the living hell that kids who are ‘different’ get put through by their peers on a daily basis. Commenting on how a star markets herself on a magazine cover and a defenseless teenager getting mercilessly tormented and shoved around on a bus are not even in the same league. Celebrities are about selling their product, which is themselves… as in any marketing campaign, you’re going to have good and bad feedback. In fact, TLo’s site and the comments their fans make are pretty gentle in comparison to a lot of sites out there where celebrities’ bodies and personal lives are scrutinized and (figuratively) shredded to bits. For as many self-admitted bitchy comments they make, TLo and the BK’s also give credit where it’s due and celebrate WERQs in all forms. You are definitely entitled to your opinion, but I agree with TLo that casually throwing around the word ‘bully’ does a great disservice to those who have to deal with actual, life-altering bullying.

      We don’t know that T. Swift isn’t a loyal reader and fan of Tlo’s website. That might be a stretch since they have gone on record with their dislike. But I do sometimes get a little uncomfortable with all the hater comments, not just about T. Swift but many others. I’m fine with teasing, snarking, criticizing the outfits, but not the hate or personal criticisms. Even people who claim to have first hand knowledge of someone’s personality, might have just run into someone on a bad day. Celebrities have feelings too and it probably contributes to self esteem issues and body image issues.

I don’t necessarily agree that she’s a good role model for young girls. I think we’re past the point, as a society, where wide-eyed virginal innocence is something to aspire to. Wait until you’re ready, respect yourself, yes OF COURSE; but the way she wears her little lamb act like a badge of honour just…feels somehow backwards to me. It’s hard to explain.
Also, every one of her songs sounds like overly romanticised drivel to me, and I don’t think mooning over how real and epic your teenage romance was is any more admirable than 90% of the songs on the radio.

Okay, trufax: I have been the biggest Taylor apologist for so long because I genuinely liked her and thought her very sheltered good-girl persona was genuine and not a put-on by her team. However. After hearing her latest song and about the shenanigans with the Kennedy kid I want to shake her until she GROWS UP. You don’t have to turn into a sex kitten or anything, Taylor, just close your mouth and endeavor to handle your relationships in a mature fashion. I feel like your lyrics have regressed in age from about 15 or 16 in “Teardrops on My Guitar” to about 11 with “Mean” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. High school is long over, move on. Develop some nuance and hopefully a little skill with metaphor before the next album. Christ.

The styling in this is cute, but again: it looks like a spread for Seventeen, not Glamour. Time to firmly close those lips and pose like a big girl, Taylor.

  I kind of got in on the ground floor with her, and when she started she was fresh off of homeschooling for most of her life. Story was that she’d grown up on a Christmas tree farm. The whole wide-eyed and awkward bit didn’t really seem like a bit then (of course her eyes weren’t so wide, her music still sounded like country, she wore sundresses and boots instead of sparkly everything, and her lyrics sounded more normal than “obsessive teen fantasy based on a movie”). She just seems less and less real with every album, and her image gets shallower and sparklier. Like a caricature of herself.

Somehow, she doesn’t bug me. I’m not totally enthralled, either, but I like that she plays instruments and writes songs (with a very experienced partner, but still). She’s maturing nicely, from a teen queen into a young adult without going horribly off the rails. She does have a pretty cute personal style and wears clothes well. I’m not impressed by this photographer. Taylor is a pretty girl and has a model’s figure so the clothes will look good even if she’s doing something interesting. So why is she posed with her mouth open, her hair taking center stage and in such mindless poses? This seems to be all to common in these photo shoots. Other than that– I started reading Glamour when I was 13, and read it for years, finally weaning myself off it about 20 years ago. Clothing and makeup-wise I think she looks gorgeous as ever. She has an amazing figure and princesslike features that she plays up well.

I get why she annoys many people. She presents a precocious, eternally optimistic stance that will rub many with a bit of cynicism (or reality) the wrong way. I have no opinion of her music which I don’t listen to but as a former bleeding heart on my sleeve kinda gal myself, I like to think I understand where she is a person. She’ll either grow out of it or be forced to grow out of it eventually and it’s my hope that it’s not the lightning jolt many young women experience. It’s easy to forget that she’s still really young too — we see so many mature starlets that I think we expect everyone to be that way. My guess is that Swift has been sheltered and protected. It’s annoying from the outside looking in but I’ll take this 10 times out of 10 over the acerbic, caustic starlets she contrasts with. (Of course I’d take a realistic person over either of those choices if that’s an option.)

My house gets Glamour and I was filled with IMPOTENT RAGE when I saw this cover as well. There are just some celebrities that are annoying for whatever reason and she is one for me. Cute shots on the inside but the cover shot is what irks me.

Look, she is a great role model for girls, you don’t even know how people her age mostly dress, it is not even a pinch as classy as how she looks just walking on the street.

And for all the people commenting that she needs to get caught doing something bad already, just take a moment and realize how ridiculously manipulative that is.
