Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I am looking forward to seeing Wendy on screen again–to see what she learned as a person and as a designer. She struck me as an old-school talent with a fashion voice possible worth hearing; and as perhaps a decent human being that allowed herself to fall victim to the darker side of herself. Of course, she might also be a deceitful, terrible person at her core, but I tend to look for the best in people. At very least, I preferred her brand of drama to the shrill hysterics of the last few seasons.

see some of her designs (I liked some of her runway) and enough to see that she was extremely hated.

Whisper, whisper, I didn’t hate Wendy all that much either…at least not when I look back at her from a perspective of what the show has become. Gretchen and Ivy I hated with a pure, raw passion. Wendy, I just view as someone who was try to play a game she wasn’t very good at.

  I actually disliked Kara Saun more, toward the end. Wendy seemed way less calculating, but maybe it was the shoes. Kara Saun’s finale shoes, that is.

    Yeah, there were definitely reasons to dislike Kara Saun and think her work was generally overpraised. Don’t get me wrong, she had a point of view and serious construction skills, but her voice as a designer was nowhere near as distinct as Austin’s or Jay’s. Her runway show was beautiful, but hardly groundbreaking.
    
    And Wendy definitely had a point about the shoes.
    
    Then again, Kara Saun gave us perhaps the most memorable quote in the whole run of the show – “You’re gonna need your soul one day, and you don’t have it!”

      I have to say that I disliked Wendy Pepper during Season One, but when she called Kara Saun out for her ridiculous attempt to get those shoes budgeted for five dollars each (or whatever amount it was) and told her off, I said, “You are absolutely right, Wendy.” In last night’s talking head where she said she was going to mow all the other contestants down, I just laughed. I think she is just playing a game and being facetious about it.

    Kara Saun was a bigger villain to me than Wendy. She had a calculating, holier-than-thou attitude and an air of entitlement. She felt Wendy owed her because she gave her a makeover and pretty much ruined Jay’s Nancy O’Dell dress with her “improvements.” Shoe-gate was the icing on the cake. I’d rather watch Wendy than Kara Saun any day.

I’ll join the “Wendy ain’t so bad group” as well. I think she got a raw deal from the cool kids during her season, and she may be really entertaining.

Stompin’ at the Savoy! Far more elegant surroundings than those cropped cargo pants and jeans the contestants are sporting. Methinks some of them are trying way too hard, right out of the gate.

I’ll gladly join in the sashay to the Champagne; this week’s 2nd maintenance chemo infusion (two days ago) is really taking a toll (losing my hair, my eyebrows, queasy, tired – such fun). Virtual bubbly makes it all better, right? Right? And like MilaXX I’m in All Stars for the entertainment value – clothes? Oh, pish-posh.

  Hi, B3! The maintenance chemo is one big dose of Taxol once a month for twelve months; I’ve had 2 so far, with the second this past Tuesday. If I go the full course, I’ll finish in August unless the neuropathy causes my oncologist to call an early halt. In fact, on Tuesday he did say to me, “I think you’re cured.” Which was pretty darn fabulous to hear, even though we both have been tacitly acknowledging this for the past two months.
  
  I seem to be well on track to ape Uncle Fester for Halloween, or Sinead O’Connor. Then again, in these here East Coast parts we may have Halloween called on account of The Perfect(ly Horrible) Storm – Hurricane Sandy. My co-op’s been disastrously flooded twice in the past 5 1/2 years (April ’07 and Irene), and a third would just eviscerate our investment here. Batteries, bottled water, LED button lights, getting the laundry done and dishwasher done over the weekend…. as much prep as possible.

      Well, Our Boys in Philadelphia are in the line of meteorological fire, too, as are a number of our BK cadre, I’m sure. And I’m concerned for all of them and hope they weigh in about their respective situations.
      
      It’s just that 5 feet of water in garages, in the “garden/basement” level of this place (25 apartments, our laundries, the electrical meters for each unit, all the storage bins…) and 15 feet of water in the sub-surface boiler room that provide our heat, hot water, which is what we had with Irene and ’07 is a helluva Plague to have visited on us!

You know guys, this probably isn’t going to be that bad. Lifetime learns from its mistakes.

Some thought Seth Aaron was too fantasy in his post-PR shows, so they gave the win to the brand-able, salable Gretchen.

We all thought Gretchen was horrible and unexpected, so they gave the win to the “Miss Congeniality” underdog Anya whose win could not be more obvious.

We all thought Anya’s win was ridiculous because of her lack of technical skills, so they gave the win to Dmitry, who can sew like a motherfucker, instead of Fabio, whose flowy pieces might bring up comparisons to Gretchen or Anya. Not to mention that the first auf of the season was the exotic beauty who loved prints and couldn’t sew.

I’m willing to bet that Josh gets first auf just to send the clear message that Lifetime is trying its hardest to please us.

And I smell no “Golden Boy Mondo” of the season, so this All Stars probably won’t have the crackpipe judging of last time’s. It’s really anyone’s game.

I’ll read your recaps but I think I’m done with PR All Stars. I don’t give a crap about drama and Wendy Pepper acting like an idiot, I just want to see good clothes. I just don’t think I’ll be seeing a lot of them. I’m sure it will be a step up from last season, but a moth could shit out silk better than what was going down the runway last season.

She was definitely casted for drama, but I actually have some faith in her abilities. Her decoy collection was very chic and covetable. However, she does tend to like minimalism, which doesn’t exactly impress judges in a design competition, so I predict she’ll be auf’d soon.

I don’t have a problem with Peach or Andre’s auf; but the win was Ivy’s – not that nonsensical, boring top and pants by

Ivy’s had too much competition going on between the lace insets in the sleeves and those in the body of the jacket. When they lined up, they distorted the model’s shape. She should have gone with either the sleeve or the body insets, but not both. And that’s probably why she didn’t get the win.

  I have to disagree with the judges about removing the insets; I thought they were quite beautiful and reminded
  me of Viktor’s inkblot patterns, – and if she had only insets on the sleeves it would simply be another ‘patched
  elbow’ look. And insets only on the body of the jacket would probably be nice, but not as visually arresting as it
  walked the RW. Also forgot to mention Althea’s as another good look from last night’s show, she should have been
  Ivy’s competition for the win, not Anthony.

WHAT?! They aren’t even waiting until January? I have to watch two shows, this and Drag Race, at the same time?? It’s just too much. My dogs will become neglected, and then abused when I take out my frustrations with these All Stars seasons on them… No, I would not do that, but they will certainly have to console me when I am depressed about things being judged unfairly.

Team Bold had Joshua’s stamp all over it and I don’t mean that in a good way. The entire collection had no idea who their girl was and where she was going. The lack of specificity on those two elements is what lost Josh the title.

Results from show #1 are not promising. Suede is terrifying-looking, Andre should have gone home, and the best outfits — Uli’s and (shockingly) Ivy’s — were 4 out of 10 at best. Peach? Poor, but she really did nothing wrong except be a middle-aged woman. This show is hateful.

  The show is heavily edited. And it is a design show, not a talking about design show. Bringing up tennis was maybe not too smart, but it was one remark out of a long discussion that we got to see.
  
  Her garment was poor but did you SEE Andrae’s? I don’t think hers was worse than many of the others, and it was definitely not THE worst. Suede’s was also much worse. Andrae and Suede have “kook appeal” and thus must be retained, though.

Andrae is just as adorable as I remembered him but I am PISSED that there is no Tim Gunn to inquire as to Andrae’s whereabouts at every single moment.

Joanna is kind of a shitty mentor. The judges are okay. New Heidi is appropriately Heidish. Better than the last one anyway.

REALLY? I went out last night (rare to disappearing event on a work night) to a dance performance. Got home in time to watch Elementary, which I am enjoying (Kind of Law and Order CI with a totally ripped, Brit-accented Goren). I was actually thinking, Thank the gods–whassnames, TLo?– Project Runway is over, finally. But no, you’ll never escape it. Well, there’s always the Lifetime website….
