Red Carpet Micro-Trend: Black Pants
Ladypants, darlings! If you’ve been reading us for any length of time, you know we’ve been a long-time proponent of ladystars breaking out the pants for their public appearances. This week, a rag-tag group of celebugals opted not to shave their legs. We’re not surprised that the ladypant color of choice is black. So much can go wrong with colorful pants when you’re getting your picture taken that it’s all too easy to default to the chic classic. Let’s assess.
Chloe Moretz attends the Chanel: The Little Black Jacket private view in London, England.
This is almost too fierce. Certainly, it’s a bit too much fierce for someone who barely remembers the first half of the Bush administration. It’s a truly fabulous look, but it’s meant to be worn by someone at least a decade older than she is. Sweetie, you’re fab, but you’re trying too hard.
Miley Cyrus leaves a recording studio in West Hollywood, California.
Okay, it’s not a red carpet per se, but it’s obvious she dressed with the knowledge that her picture was going to get taken. She had a brief moment during the summer when she looked fun and stylish, but she’s back to looking silly and frumpy. If Helen Mirren wore this, we’d give her snaps of respect, but Helen Mirren is 45 years older than Miley.
Stacy Keibler attends the Annie Leibovitz’s The Macallan Masters of Photography collection launch in New York City.
Uh… okay. This succession of looks is starting to make us think we should stop advocating for ladypants on the red carpet. There’s too much going on here. And way too much black.
Vanessa Hudgens attends the screening of ‘Seven Psychopaths’ in New York City.
This could have been so cute with the right top. That crushed velvet and lace thing she’s wearing is awful.
Come on, ladystars. We know you can put together a chic, appropriate outfit with pants. Keep trying. We’ll be here to judge the results.
