JESUS CHRIST, LENA DUNHAM. We weren’t planning on talking about her two days in a row, but this simply must be addressed:

Allison Williams and Lena Dunham attend the L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade culinary event in Culver City, California.

PANTS ARE NOT YOUR ENEMY, LENA.

This is obviously a casual event and we’d be surprised if either of them utilized the services of a stylist for it (if they did, they should fire them), so we’ll grade on a curve here. From the left:

SHE: Looks fine. The dress is a little on the juvenile side, but we’ve always been suckers for seersucker. We’re also big fans of flats, but pointy-toed flats just seem odd to us. And red wasn’t a great choice paired with that dress because your eyes can’t help but go straight to her feet. Score: 8/10

SHE: Is causing us stress. It’s bad enough she’s trying to rock a pantsless look, but she chose to do so by sporting a maternity blouse from 1983. To be blunt: that shit is fugly. And those shoes belong on a 5-year-old. Score: 1/10. Yes, we can see that she’s wearing shorts, but they might as well be panties. And yes, this is us, grading on a curve.

Combined Score: 4.5/10. Allison, take your co-star aside and have a heart-to-heart about the joy of wearing pants.

    Mine did as well, but, umm, I kind of liked it. It IS BROILING in L.A. right now–105 yesterday, so I’m cutting a bit of slack–though not for Lena’s unforgiveable blouse. Dear God. She was doing that tunic cover-the-fat thing that actually makes you look heavier. But wrong fabric, cut, etc., etc. She looks like she’s wearing on my mother’s work blouses from the early 80s. Ugh.

Oh lord, this is awful. Now, as a girl who’s not conventionally “pretty” and who has quite a normal body type for a woman her age (which makes her atypical in Hollywood), it must be hard sometimes going to events with lots of skinny, conventionally attractive girls. But the answer to that is NOT to throw on what I would call “I have my period and I hate people, and the only reason I’m wearing anything aside from a bathrobe is I’m expecting a delivery later” outfit. (I’m sure you all have those outfits, right? Right?)

    What I find really distressing is that she seems to have gone over to “old-time comedienne” mode: instead of being a normal, cute girl, this outfit just screams Totie Fields to me. In other words, “I’m a funny woman and I’m not attractive. I can’t get your admiration but I can get your laughs.” There’s no reason for her to play that card.

        Oh, on Girls (and for an opening skit for the Emmys) Lena Dunham’s preffered costume is her birthday suit. Preferably while she’s sitting on the toilet, or the bathroom floor, eating something (usually cake, or cupcakes) while someone else is in the room too. It’s entirely possible there was a scene with her character sitting on the couch naked while her boyfriend opened the door to the pizza delivery guy, but if not, there probably will be in the next season.

Allison…twee dress, but cute on her. The red flats are fine with me except the pointed toes. Perhaps a less vibrant red.

Lena…longer shorts and I could almost forgive her the top just because she seems to not be the fashionable type. There are much better ways to dress for fuller figures tho, than to just throw on an over-sized shirt. Those shoes..ugh. smh. She’s now in the public eye…gonna have to learn to dress more appropriately, or pay someone to dress her.

If Lena was going for thunderthighs, she nailed it. But I suspect that was not what she was going for. The color does her no favors, the buttoned up to the neck placket is crying for some kind of bottom, and yes, those look suspiciously like Hanes-for-her boyshort briefs (complete with fake Y-front) underneath.

I love a pointed toed flat myself, makes one’s legs look longer. However these are too focus-pulling so a bad choice for an otherwise not bad dress.

1. Lena Dunham is AWESOME. I will not take that from her.
2. I am so disappointed with her fashion. I love a vintage-inspired blouse, but maybe if it was more fitted and tucked into a cute printed skirt? I don’t know I just want to help her. I have a similar shape, no money, and I manage to look pretty good most days. Tucking tops into skirts was revolutionary for my wardrobe. She just needs someone to show her the way.

From the waist up I think Lena looks fine. I personally think her pixie cut,the shirt color and her understated jewelry look great on her but she’s definitely a scroll down fug. The lack of pants and those shoes are horrible! I think Lena’s fashion problem is that she is larger around the middle and doesn’t know how to dress for that (also see Mindy Kaling and Christina Aguilera). The Williams girl (besides the adorable shoes, yes pointy flats are “in” and yes I love them) looks boring as hell IMHO.
