Brad Pitt for Interview Magazine

Y’know, we were never really on the Brad Pitt Love Train. Sure, he’s a very good-looking man, but he never really did it for us, in terms of pants-moving.

Still, even we were appalled at how bad he looks here.

Brad Pitt is featured in the October/November 2012 issue of Interview magazine photographed by Steven Klein.

On choosing new roles: “I think I’m at a point now where I feel like I can jump into anything and lay something down that’s quality. Someone may be better at it—or maybe not—but I know that if I have a feeling for it, then I can make it interesting. But even more as I get older, it’s about the company that I keep. That’s the most important thing to me—that if I’m gonna spend however long it takes to make a movie, give up 14 hours a day for however many weeks or months, then it’s very important for me to know that I’m working with people who I respect and enjoy and that we’re going for something together. That’s it, really.”

We suppose that was kind of the point; take the guy whose name is synonymous with “handsome” and ugly him up a bit. We don’t mind the dreads or the long hair or even the rockabilly look – they all suit him - but the eyeliner is making him look like Liberace.

Welp, you can’t say this is a boring actor-tries-to-model editorial. This is an actor being an actor. It’s not beautiful, in the conventional sense, but it is interesting. It is full of character. I like it.

  Brad Pitt (according to a friend in the industry) has exceptionally bad skin. To the point where in photo shoots they’ve actually had to use scar wax to fill in his acne scars. So yes, if you count that, they might possibly have spackled him. They have to.

i’m curious about how they shot these pics. did they start with him all scruffy facial hair and then shave/trim it in increments for various looks? or is all the facial hair artificial (doesn’t look like it, and scruffy does seem to be his default look.) if they took it all off for the clean shaven shots, they did him a favor.

My impression is that Brad has never taken himself too seriously. Hence this layout. I agree with the character actor comments. Yes, he looks douchey in these pics, but I think that is what he went for. He was never my “type” but I respect the hell out of him. I will give him this editorial and treat it as a joke/advertisement for future movie roles.

I have to respectfully disagree. I love it that Brad Pitt actually looks his age. He doesn’t look like he’s had a bunch of work. He is 48 and and he is wearing it well. He also has always been someone who is not afraid of looking ugly: Kalifornia, Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club. He’s a beautiful man who is not afraid to let his face take a beating. As you may have guessed, I still <3 him bigtime.

This might be the male equivalent of the effort Cameron Diaz was making with her Creeper Richardson shoot. They are both aging superstars, both have to be worried about losing their youthful mojo, and both seem to think that an edgy photo shoot might restore some of the street-cred luster that younger people have so much of that they can piss it away. The only difference is that, being a guy, he doesn’t have to venture as far as does a woman, into sleazy photoshoot territory, to make his point.

Truly, I’ve always wanted to hit that, ever since “Thelma And Louise”, and these don’t change anything. I like all the different looks, because one of the things I’ve always respected about him is that he’s not afraid to ugly himself up for a role. He’s always been okay with being a bit of a chameleon, which I love about him.

Really? Oh I love this! LOVE it! He’s still fundamentally beautiful, and if you…okay, maybe not. But if I saw any of these versions of this guy on the street, I would stare, and follow him for a few blocks, and I’d watch. The very top and very bottom ones remind me of so many homeless men I’ve seen; if you stop to look for a minute you can see shades of the beauty that was warn away, and that always hits me in the heart. He’s never done it for me, looks-wise, but I was really shocked and disappointing (because it meant I couldn’t hate on him) to find the guy can really act. If you look at this not as a fashion shoot, but rather as a set of character sketches, it’s fairly interesting work.
