I really, really love this! I also love the deconstructed nature of some of the pieces, where you can see the hoops or panniers through the fabric – or in the case of the gold gown, on top of it.

  I agree, and I’m not usually a fan of transparency (it feels so overdone lately), but this is the way to do it, it adds femininity to a garment that might look overworked and heavy, maybe even violent otherwise.

Was trying to think of what to call the beautiful, glowing amber-ish accent color in the first three looks, my favorites. I thought, “It reminds me of that jar of dark wildflower honey I bought…the one I love to hold up to the light and stare at…” But it still took a moment to sink in: Honey. Bees. Oh! McQueen never fails to entertain, and Sarah Burton has really managed to maintain the house aesthetic while bring her own version of pretty vs. edgy to the table. The huge yellow gown with the flowers and just-visible hoops is a real showstopper. Can’t wait to see some of the more fashionably daring ladies in the wearable looks. I love the red and yellow dresses with that exposed-honeycomb bodice (and normally I hate the “I-can-see-your-corset” look). In terms of construction, there are looks to suit a lot of different bodies here. I can’t wait for someone to try the pantsuit and shortsuit.

Absolutely gorgeous prints. I want a few yards of the gold honeycomb on black, just to play with.

When I see a McQueen show, even if I don’t always love all the clothes, I still come away with a sense of having seen such attention to detail that I’ve seen an art show. This is real couture at its finest.

Oh, this is breath taking and brilliant! I saw a collection of things owned and worn by Napoleon Bonaparte and his wives at a time when I also happened to be taking a Roman Civilization class. Bees were very much part of the Roman culture through the Pax Romana and were also incorporated into the branding of several of the emperors and then co-opted for similar purposes by Napoleon and his artisans. (Pardon the Cliff Claven moment there.) I love the way they blew out the concept here. It goes overboard with the three daisy dresses. One would have been sufficient. The orange dress should definitely have been edited out but otherwise, I’m fairly well besotted.

After seeing these spectacular photos, I hurried to watch the runway show on youtube and was disappointed that most of the outfits look better in still photos than in motion. Especially those big gowns at the end — so stiff! The fabrics and execution, and most of all the unusual inspiration, are still incredible. I look forward to watching the runway show again (and again?) for all those details I’ve missed.

I don’t like this collection at all except for the hats. It looks amateur costume. Those last two gowns are horrible, with the flower explosions over the breasts. Reminds me of the crocheted toilet paper cover dolls my grandmother used to make. I’m not asking this fasciously but honestly – if another designer had turned out this collection, would there be such praise or is it just that it is “Alexander McQueen”?

still not & never will be crazy about sheer skirts, not in anyones hands or over anyones legs. & some, but not all, of the cages are a bit overdone–more are better, fewer exhausting. on the whole, though, this is a nice collection of stuff. i’d say i wish i could afford some of it but i could only wear it in a world we no longer have. in truth, thats probably the only place w/in some sort of reason where it would make a difference. not here not now, like everything it’s just more page fodder & low rent drama. so theres also that.

This is the first McQueen collection in a while that I did not turn up my nose to.

I’m in the minority here, but I don’t like it. It’s the first Burton collection for McQueen I flat out do not like – and some of her collections have given me pause.

It’s too literal from the honeycomb cutout fabric to the amber corsets and chokers with embedded bees.

It also feels a bit one-note. I’ve found that Burton is starting to fall back on the same silohuettes and within those silohuettes she will do three or four minor variations of the same dress. I mean, nearly identical but one will be short sleeved then long sleeved or no collar then collared.

And although you can’t tell from the photographs she has returned yet again to the heel-less high heel shoe for the fourth collection in a row.

There’s some incredible attention to detail – that smocking is fabulous – but it’s not enough. It’s too crazy and not in the cool crazy way that I usually except from the McQueen label.

This collection is so totally up my street! The detail is gorgeous. There are two corsets, one black one cream that are completely covered with the type of traditional flossing that was used heavily on the ends of boning channels on antiques. She’s taken it to it’s peak covering the whole corset with it. I love the skeleton corsets and the cage crinolines. I think the smocking is wonderful and I love the layering.
