“Alex Cross” Los Angeles Premiere
Matthew Fox, Tyler Perry, and Edward Burns attend the premiere of “Alex Cross” at the ArcLight Cinemas Cinerama Dome in Hollywood.
To hell with the ladies in attendance; let’s skip them for once, and just look at the men, especially since all three of them look great.
It’s a little too shiny for our tastes, and we’d love to have seen a wider tie, say… in a silver, but it’s a great suit that seems to be well-tailored, although it’s hard to tell with his hands shoved in his pockets. Also, those shoes look awfully dingy.
We’re jealous of how thin and fit he looks but we can practically guarantee that in person he looks gaunt and underfed.
We swear on a stack of bibles, it is weirdly difficult to get full body shots of black male stars on the red carpet. We have no idea why that is, except for maybe some sort of cultural aversion to posing in that kind of venue, or some kind of subtle racism on the part of the photographers or wire services, but it’s something we’ve long wanted to admit, but never found a way to bring up without sounding a little defensive about it. When you look at all the shots taken at certain red carpet events, you’ll see a dozen or more shots of each person, and maybe three shots of the black guy, mostly in closeup, which always made us think that a lot of them just rush on through. Will Smith is one of the few black male stars who seems to love posing.
Anyway, he looks good. We’d always rather see a man in a tie at an event like this, but we suspect he doesn’t like to wear them unless he has to because he has a pretty full face and a closed collar can look like a tourniquet. We wish the shirt looked a little crisper, though. And we think he could’ve gotten away with a subtly colored one instead of defaulting to black.
When he was younger, we thought he was blandly average-looking, but he’s really grown into his face. Two things we appreciate: a colored tie, in a color you wouldn’t expect, and perfectly styled hair.
