New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Front Row

Darlings, it’s time once again to check in on the front row action at New York Fashion Week. Bear in mind that the tents and venues of Fashion Week are about as far from the average red carpet experience as one can get; cramped, sweaty and frantic. It’s amazing some of these people look as good as they do, to be honest. Just getting from Point A to Point B is a major hassle in these settings; even for the famous.

But let’s judge some of them anyway.

I don’t know who most of these people are, but I can judge them too! Julia Jones looks like a paralegal. Love Aino Jawo’s entire look – especially her hair! Tinsley Mortimer’s dress looks like it came from an 80s prom. AnnaSophia Robb should’ve worn a longer hemline – she’s trying to use her clutch like a shield, so no one can take photos up her skirt.

  LOL here (for real) — I literally typed and then erased a comment saying “How nice Julie Jones was able to dash over on her lunch hour. Do you think the rest of the paralegals will notice if she takes the rest of the day off?” but then decided that was too mean. I have reconsidered. I don’t know Julie Jones and she is most likely a very nice person but her outfit piqued me more than any of the others.

  I’ve been wondering about the Zoe, too. Read somewhere that her line wasn’t selling well and that she was in financial trouble, while her show was on the bubble. I’d like to know more–her last season felt very contrived, but the Zoe sort of entertains me, I’d like her, I think, in a different format or with a little more genuine reality where she’s styling. Not quite so much baby-baby-baby.

      Yeah, I want the Zoe to come out, looking glazed, her scrawny self shielded in drapey 70s things, whining and complaining, while she styles somebody effortlessly in 10 seconds. That’s what I find so weirdly entertaining about her–she’s so trivial as a person and weird, but so good at what she does–smart hands.
      
      I also find Rodger amusing in very small doses simply because he seems convinced that Rachel’s a real person.

I don’t agree about Hailee in the teal lace. I think it’s awful matronly and even her grandma shouldn’t wear it.

  I agree about Hailee Steinfeld. It looks like a lot of things that I’ve picked up out of curiosity when digging through thrift stores and thrown back down because it feels cheap and itchy. And the shoes are just sad.

Nice to see AnnaSophia Robb’s BRIGHT SAFETY YELLOW clutch could double as protection for her crotch because her skirt was too damn short to allow her to sit without showing everything to the world. That makes it a tool, not a gadget since it can do more than one thing.

  Out of 5 bridesmaids dresses I wore exactly one a second time. It was tea length and very pretty, a silk instead of satin. In fact I wore it to a black tie affair and then again on a cruise. The rest of the dresses I donated for underprivileged teens to wear to prom.

    A friend of mine, bless her, specifically chose a dress we could wear again. I wore that dress probably a dozen times, to weddings and fancy things. One of the best dresses I ever had.

It’s interesting how the fashion is all over the place. Yeah–there are the ones with the leather jackets, but it ranges from cute casual sun dresses to RC worthy gowns to tacky urban street wear. Weird.

I like Sanya Richards Ross’s hair better blown straight than in those curls. I don’t like either of her outfits. BTW now that we’ve talked about the controversy of Gabby Douglas’s hair can I just say the woman’s track team was the glam squad! Most of these women were running with nails done, lashes on and a touch of lipgloss. They even managed to find hairstyles that could hold up against the wind and sweat.
Nick Cannon is a grown man with a wife and kids. He really needs to stop dressing like a 16 year old boy.

  my niece(14) is a runner, and her take was yuck, how do you run in all that makeup sweating? and yuck, I’ll never do that…she might change her mind if she ever competes on the national level, those cameras in your face make you want to look pretty, but I was a little put off by all of Sanya’s make up and stuff, I get it, but geeze, it’s ALOT! Once again, I must admit that there is a preponderance of people SO famous that I – aging, untuned-in to the zeitgeist, dweeby – have NO idea who they are. But they’re pretty, for the most part, even if a lot of them are wearing clothing suited for the Iditarod rather than . . . yeah, September in NY. Holy Farenheit, Batman, it was so humid up here in the Lower Hudson Valley that steam was rising from the bowels of the earth and these folks are wearing wool, leather, and long sleeves? In Gotham City?

I know – it’s part of the publicity machinations, the self promotion game and the usual opportunistic scramble to be photographed that makes people wear clothing so unsuited to the real world.
