Mara Hoffman Spring 2013 Collection
When three ukelele players with palm fronds in their hair are placed at the end of the runway to kick off the show, it’s a pretty safe bet that an island theme is heading your way. What makes this collection more than just a chance to put on a lei are the beautiful prints, evoking Hawaiian culture and iconography, rendered in the colors of tropical flowers. We loved the flowy, earthy sexiness on display and appreciated the use of a raffia-like cording as embellishment on several of the looks. The two major colors coming out of this season seem to be, depressingly enough, black and white, so it’s a joy to see a designer indulge herself with glorious color.
