  This is a woman, born to wear saturated colors. Imagine her in a dense loden green, or that glorious hair and complexion, played against a deep earthy russet. She always looks great in the obvious, patriotic, reds and blues, but there are other colors in the spectrum. I rather imagine, that as she gets more used to her role, she will step further out of the safe zone.

      Oh yes indeed. In 1983 or so I was called back to fill in at my old job (after having my first child in February that year) while my replacement had surgery. There was a new employee in my department who did that on the side. (I think it was Color Me Beautiful) She did the colors for a few of us over lunch hours one week and I was “an unusual brown-eyed Summer”.

      I loved that silly book! Especially the unstoppably 1980s pencil illustrations. My favorite memory of the instructions is the clear command that Winters NEVER color their hair–wear diamonds instead.

      I remember that well. I confused so many Color Me Beautiful consultants. I was, at various times, classified as summer, spring and winter. I think the only reason I was never classified as fall was because I so obviously look awful in orange, even though other fall colors look fabulous on me.
      
      Turns out my skin is not only very pale, but exactly neutral – so I fail on the first classification they were trying to make. Oops!

      I was first told I was an autumn and then someone else was sure I was a winter. However, black and pastels make me look like I was helped out of my coffin while I always get compliments when I wear orange.

      The four-season Color Me Beautiful system only worked really well if you happened to be a “true” season, purely warm or purely cool. If your coloring was warm-neutral or cool-neutral, you were out of luck — and probably wrote off all color analysis as garbage.
      
      The modern 12-Tone (Sci/Art) system works a lot better for those with neutral coloring, who are the majority. And it’s based solely on how your skin appears when draped in various colors, not on hair and/or eye color, which are quite unreliable predictors of season. (Based on hair and eyes, I would be some kind of Winter, but my skin tells another tale and pegs me as True Summer.)

      I believe that’s the system the woman who finally gave me a set of colors that actually worked for me was using. None of the seasonal sets really work for me – I look good in intense, but not necessarily clear shades that are neither very warm or very cool. Greens of all kinds, purples, burgundies, browns, and so on. True blues, oranges, yellows, or pastel anything pretty much make me look zombified. I was quite horrified to find out how good I look in olive green – a color I’ve hated my whole life.

  Not always, though. It just has to go over the boundary rope without touching the ground first to be 6. A lot of guys prefer ‘flat’ sixes hit low and just hard enough to carry across the rope because they’re safer – you hit the ball high, there’s the risk that you haven’t timed it right, so it gets caught and then you’re out. Yes, I’m being pedantic, I’ll stop now.

Those pics was taken in Singapore in the past 2 days. She is actually wearing the colour of our national flower the orchid Vanda Miss Joaquim which is similar in shade and pattern without looking tacky or too literal. Powerful.
