Gwennie thinks pink, and looks fabulous doing it.

Gwen Stefani is featured in the September 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine photographed by Terry Richardson and styled by Lori Goldstein.

On her style: “I’ve always been a girl who loves to dress up. I already put my makeup on twice today: I put it on to take my kid to school, and then I went home, washed my face, and put it on again to have lunch with you. I like to make my husband like me more and he likes it when I’m wearing makeup.”

On staying fit: “I hate talking about my body [all the time]; it’s ridiculous. There is no secret: You just have to eat healthy, work out, and torture yourself! I like to wear clothes too much, so I try to keep focused.”

On motherhood: “It’s superfun being a mom, but it’s hard too. Finding that balance between work and family is the hardest thing I’ve ever done—by far.”

On fame and gossip: “That someone would say something untrue or bad about me doesn’t bother me. It’s like water off a duck’s back. None of that stuff matters. There’s something in me, being this passive person, that those kinds of things don’t upset me. I know they can say anything; they can just make something up. But what are you going to do? It’s not part of my reality, so it’s okay.”

Just yesterday we said that pink’s a lot harder to wear than most people realize. To that we’ll add that pink is, in our observation, the most abused color in the style world; constantly worn in shades that don’t flatter the wearer. Gwen’s modeling a range of pinks here and because she’s Gwen Stefani, Master’s-level dress-wearer, she can make almost all of them work. Although if we had to pick the one that’s working the least, it’d be that Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit. That’s looking a little Barbie on her.

And the blacks are there because she’s Gwen Stefani. It’s as close to her signature color as black can be.

GW is a fantastic designer and model. Her pictures convey joy and a spirit for living. She is the alter ego for Victoria (Frown) Beckham. I wish I liked her music more, but that may be a matter of generational taste. She is creative and joyful.

Unfortunately she had to wear the mop head dress and coat. Were those from a PR challenge? Other than the Alexander McQueen disasters, she looks great!

The Vera Wang looks so much better on her than it does on the model. For a bridal look, that model is funereal of face & hair.

I have a huge girl crush on Gwen Stefani. I think she looks great in all the looks, but the two black pieces are my favourites.

    I liked the black bridal collection more before Vera announced that she was getting divorced. It seemed dramatic and different when it was shown, but now it just seems either sad or bitter. Which makes me sad (but not bitter, thank goodness).

  Agreed about Gwen being honest about how she keeps her body. I remember when I was a young teen, I read an interview where she said that she couldn’t have pizza, basically described her Victoria Beckham esque approach to eating. It was really refreshing, because instead of feeling jealous/self-hating when I looked at her abs, I could be like “that is nice, but…. I have pizza.” *pats belly*

      The Jil Sander one was from his last collection (A/W ’12, which is why it’s in magazines now), then he got sacked at Jil Sander, because the real Jil Sander came back and he took the position at Dior which Galliano left behind. The dress from Dior is from the Haute Couture A/W ’12, which was shown a little while ago, which is why celebs are wearing it…

People have a “blood” color. For some folks, red is the best. For others it’s a shade of pink. Has to do with skin, eye and hair color as well.

Rolling Stone did a “women who rock” series and did not include her – I thought that was such a miss, because ever since the Don’t Speak video, I have thought she was the one of the most kick-ass girls in entertainment. The skirt on the (last) Jill Sanders dress looks simple at first glance, then…..it is extremely complex with long darts, some unsewn darts and different fabrics as reimagined for Harpers. I’d love to see other views of it, just to understand why and if it moves well or not.

About halfway through these shots I was like “Who the hell photographed this shoot, Terry Richardson?”. Scrolled up, confirmed. What a waste of a fierce gal in fabulous garb. That topknot is stupid and the blown-out lighting and unimaginative blocking piss me off. They look like test shots.
