Inside, she takes a stroll through a very filtered version of the decade, looking like she’s shooting her latest music video with The Human League or Spandau Ballet. To which we say again: AWESOME. ’80s-themed editorials aren’t the newest idea on the block but this is beautifully styled and Emma makes an arresting figure in these styles. Who knew she could serve up Nagel realness?

        Yeah, my 80s style wasn’t this dark and glamorous, it was more of “the usual shit,” as you put it. Definitely some neon and Flashdance-inspired, with early Madonna thrown in. By the time I was old enough, post college, to rock a more glam look, grunge was making its way onto the scene.

        The early 90s were SO bad. Maybe the worst. I remember how I dressed then and it was like there was no direction – we were supposed to be ‘over’ the 80s punk/new wave influences, but grunge really hadn’t come to town yet. (At least, not in the backwater where I lived.) It was just like whatever was available at the local Ross.

        Not a teenager in the 80s but the day I went to work knowing I’d be laid off I was wearing a purple and black tiger stripe dress, high heeled black leather boots and had spikes of purple in my hair. When someone plowed into me on the way in, I walked to the nearby police station to report the accident dementedly trying to get rid of those spikes!

Since I had two small children at the beginning of the decade, I missed the 80s altogther, save for listening to Arrowsmith and watching videos on that new cable channel, MTV, once n a great while (which seemed to be a lot of Michael Jackson.)
So I have no reference point from which to compare these photos. But–I do remember the 80s being “fabulous…” and these are fabulous!

Wow. Nicely done. That second to last pose/outfit is my fave. I can’t tell you how many Nagel prints I had on my walls in those days! I remember fondly my spikey haircut as well! As for the poor model second picture down – do you suppose Chanel paid to have her eyebrows re-planted when they ripped them off removing those stones? Hope so.
