Vogue Korea: Driving Miss Heat

We’re not entirely sure what the title of this editorial is supposed to mean, but it’s not exactly hard to figure out: badass chicks in killer fashion, draping themselves over classic cars. There’s your pretty for the day, darlings. Enjoy.

Editorial titled “Driving Miss Heat” from the latest issue of Vogue Korea featuring looks from Prada, Miu Miu, Dolce&Gabbana and Moschino, among others.

    When the girls are Korean, I don’t find that as much of a problem as with western models, because most Asians are naturally skinny and tiny, i.e., it’s not a looked achieved by starvation. All healthy bodies should be celebrated.
    
    I do have to agree that some clothes look better on curvier girls, while others look better on the skinny, and that last (whatever that black thing is supposed to be called) would probably look better on a curvier girl, the model is practically bending backwards in order to create that effect.

      i have to beg to differ with that assessment. i don’t think any of these ladies looks particularly unhealthy though they are thin, but i know plenty of curvy korean women. thinness can be as difficult to achieve for a korean woman as for one of european decent. make no mistake, these women work for their bodies.

        Well, I am personally speaking of Korean women living in Korea, not people of Korean descent (the culture and food you eat obviously make a difference, it’s not all genes), and as someone who has lived there, I must say I disagree. Even though it’s not impossible, it is rare for korean women to be really curvy (though that is of course a matter of comparison, for next to some japanese, they can look like J-Lo), and women there were always curious about my boobs (and i’m not even that big, a C-cup).

        It is rare for Korean women to be curvy because Korean society is obsessed with being thin, underweight even. It is not just those outside of Korea who have to work hard for their thinness, Korean women starve and sweat for it too. Korean women rank amongst the highest for amount of time spent on disciplinary measures. No wonder too, as everyone you meet on the street, at work, and at home will tell you that you are fat if you don’t look extremely thin. (This coming from someone who has lived in Korea for a couple years now. I routinely get told I am fat and need to lose weight, even though I feel very healthy at my size 8.)

        Yes, while they aren’t mutually exclusive, especially in image-conscious Korea, it really is much easier to be a slim and tiny Asian than it is for other ethnicities imo. I think it is definitely to do with genetics, particularly bone structure. I’m Asian and I live in an Asian country, and you would be genuinely appalled at the amount girls to grown women can eat and not exercise yet still be ridiculously small.

  I think it’s a play off Driving Miss Daisy, too, but instead of Miss Daisy, they are subbing in girls who bring the heat in capri pants and stiletto heels. Like Driving Miss Hottie, if you will.

They look like Korean Barbie dolls. The early Barbie, who, if I remember right, had an incarnation with dark curly hair.

Not a criticism, this is very pretty and interesting in a 60′s film ad fashion (as has been referenced).

diametrically unlike the flimsy, feminine stuff we usually see from the asian nations–yow–in many of the photos [though particularly] the fourth, the model[s] look tougher than anything we might see from, say, italy. or the us of a. or anywhere. interesting, well done job. not my favorite clothes, not even my favorite shoes–but i love the cars. i usually know something of cars–although not that much–but i’m having a difficult time placing these. i’m thinking italian, here, but i’m not sure which ones? could be anything to my tired head from oh, lamborghini through fiat. anybody?

I don’t know guys. I guess I’m feeling contrarian. I usually love the Vogue Korea editorials, but I’m not so enchanted by this one. Hard to say why, the settings are striking but the clothes seem more ordinary. I love the sweet pink convertible but what I really don’t like here are the poses, which look forced and artificial. Which is of course an odd complaint, as every editorial like this is staged. This one just doesn’t flow as well for me, or really tell a compelling story. I do see where other commenters get a West Side Story vibe.

  I very much agree. It’s just not up to Vogue Korea’s usual standard. That’s what happens when you set the bar too high – I would take this over just about anything in American Vogue in the last year, but still, there’s no there there.

Oh, now THAT is how you use a setting. The clothes are still shown to great effect, but the set is interesting enough to keep your eye on the page for a closer look. Fantastic.

Totally cool and badass. Love all the little pieces; especially the matador jacket/sweater.
So thankful no one tinkered with the film to create a queazy unreal reality; the colors are rich but true.

I love the styling of this editorial. However, regarding the last photo: HOW is it physically possible that this girl’s stomach is in one quadrant of the photo and her derriere ends in a far distant quadrant?! Is this physically possible? I can’t figure it out.

So maybe because I’m from the Caribbean, but this strongly reminds me of Cuba. You know, the whole, classic-cars-because-America-whapped-an-Embargo-on-us, vibe. The run-down building I’m going to optimistically call a factory helps. Dunno what Cuba would have to do with Korean fashion, but there you have it.
