We canNOT with that hair.

Lana Del Rey out and about in London wearing a Sandro pleated top paired with G-Star’s Midge Skinny jeans and her Mulberry bag.

But whatever; it’s her thing now, we suppose. Looks terrible with her bone structure, but then again, so did Winehouse’s hair and she’s clearly making a play to fill the spot.

The cross is a both a huge cliche and kind of obnoxious, but everything else about her outfit is super-cute, we have to say. Kind of a shame she had to ruin it with that smacked-ass styling.

And sweetie, you can forget about getting any more free bags if you can’t remember to show the photographers the label. Come now. Must we teach you everything?

  Exactly right. Say what you will about Winehouse, but her talent was in direct proportion to all her crazy- she could wear whatever the hell she wanted to because that voice blew everyone away. I know opinions vary a great deal on Lana Del Ray, but in all honesty even her fans can’t say that she has anything close to the ability that Amy Winehouse was blessed with.

  Yep. I actually hate the sneakers even more than the hair. With the pants line it makes her ankles look humongous. Why on earth would you put such a fat sneaker on? Oh, the unbuttoned, then askew blouse is also iffy for me, but I can live with it–provided that somebody dumps a bucket on her hair and runs off with the shoes.

Besides the bad hair, that blouse looks wonky on her. She should have buttoned it up as shown on the model. In that last photo, her head looks like it was badly photoshopped onto her body.

I kinda like the hair – if you gotta have a gimmick (and as we all know, “Kid, you gotta have a gimmick, if you want to get ahead”) I’d rather it was kinda out there than a half-way measure. I like the hair better than say, the giant cross. Which was old and tired about the time this one was born, I think.

And, to be completely contrary, even though they work with the look, I hate the shoes soooo much. Basically, love the top, like the hair/makeup/schtick, meh pants, “please, no” cross & run screaming from those shoes.

Agree with all of the Commentariat here: only three people can carry this look: Cindy Wilson, Kate Pierson & Amy Winehouse. Why? Because they were super-talented and in on the gimmick. LDR always strikes me as humorless and with thin vocal talents. Feh.

  Although I agree with you on where the talent lies, talent has nothing to do with why the hair looked good on one singer and bad on another. Cindy Wilson and Katie Pierson wear it full-on retro, without attempting to apply the look to modern styles. There hair is, in effect, costuming. Therefore, the hair works in the context of their style. Amy Winehouse pulled off the hair without being as costume-y for two reasons. First, she never wore it super polished, movie-star style, as Lana is here. Amy was rocking more of a sexy greaser look then a Brigitte Bardot. Second, Amy was not conventionally pretty. She had interesting features, she was distinctive looking, but she wasn’t pretty-pretty. There was no pretty for the hair to compete with, it could be the main feature. It looks terrible on Lana, who tries to make the big hair part of her polished pretty. Pretty with an edge of hip drama is her thing. Amy’s thing was wild, intense, retro-low-class drama. Big hair works better with the latter than with the former.
  That said, I love Lana’s top. Styling does suck rocks.

I know the hair sucks, but the worst of it is that it reinforces the way this outfit gives her such hideous proportions. She looks like a giant head on top of a giant square-block torso, that someone hammerd down onto her legs so hard they squished down to only 18″ long. This is an outfit that require model-like proprations and posing skill to carry off.

She should not be wearing the top with jeans. The runway model wears pastel pants with it, and it looks like resort wear. Dark pants and running shoes make it jail clothes. My first impression from the top photo is that she should be wearing handcuffs because she was being escorted by deputies. I assume that was the look she was going for.
