Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace

We’re feeling a little fashion-cranky today. Not really loving how the stars have been dressing lately. We need a shot of Gaga right now looking like a comic book supervillain.

She is a hilarious Fashion Creature and we love her for it. Say what you will about her; no one else is doing what she’s doing at the moment. Thanks, Steffi. We needed that.

But we needed that more.

Oh, HGH. Boot cut? Disappointing. Thankfully, the killer smile distracts.

  Honestly, and musically, don’t even go there. I like Gaga just fine and I love looking at pictures of her and HGH certainly is very very HOT, but I feel there are more interesting pop stars out there with better songs. 80% of her songs make me go walleyed with boredom, the other 20% are good fun.

I LOVE this entire outfit. No, not everybody could or should wear this lest they look like something straight out of The Hunger Games, but she makes “weird” feel accessible and rather friendly, which is not an easy trick. Plus she’s got a great butt, and you need that in this dress.

  This will probably come out wrong, but fans of either, I mean no offense, though I am sure I over-simplify: Perry can’t do the extreme style like Gaga & I firmly believe it’s because Perry can (though so many pretty women don’t) see herself as pretty, but Gaga can’t.
  
  Gaga can be (and often is) stunning, and she has worked to get and keep a great body, but her features fall short of the American pretty girl ideal. And she went through American high school, I believe, so that mattered. She did what attractive but not pretty girls do if they’re of dramatic bent: developed the ability to be comfortable in a very dramatic, extreme style and to inhabit that style so that she convinces others that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
  
  Perry never had to own the dramatic the way Gaga does.

I had my hair dressed that way for my winter formal senior year. Not in teal, of course, but that same look. I’d gone to my stylist and told him he could do whatever he wanted and that’s what he went with. It tickles me to see it on Lady Gaga.
