Because you could’ve just hit the streets in a pair of cutoffs and Uggs or something similarly painful to look at. But you didn’t. You leaped out of bed that morning, threw on that dress, grabbed a cute dog from a passerby, and said, “I’MA MAKE A STATEMENT, TODAY. CHECK ME, WORLD.” You didn’t have to wear a dress, but you went for it anyway. And you look pretty damn chic.

Now, we wouldn’t presume to tell a woman what a woman ought to think, but if a woman’s gotta think, think PINK!

Sorry. Just had to spew that. It’s like a form of Gay Tourettes.

Anyway.

Granted, it’s a near-certainty that you knew you were going to be photographed, but hey, even then a lot of ladystars hit the sidewalk in horribly ugly and unfabulous outfits, so you’re a winner either way, darling. Think pink.

My only gripe is that heavy studded purse–not really the thing to go with that dress. But she looks great overall.

That is exactly the kind of dress that I long to wear but cannot, with my plus-sized Joan Harris body. I covet that easy-breezy style. Lovely.

  From a ‘Joannie’ type in AZ – a bra, camisole then the dress – looks fabulous and people look at you admiringly. Darling – shorts and a t shirt are usually not our most outstanding looks. I have made myself several similar dresses with an asymmetrical hem (for visual diversion) and spend the summer in them. I wish for the ability to not wear a bra – but my girls are always put away securely. <3

      I think I look pregnant whenever I wear a dress with a empire waist despite the fact that I’m not heavy. Some styles are just ingrained to read maternity, I think.

    Yup. I’m an 18, and I live in a dress in the summer. It’s just more comfortable, and my big ol’ ass looks infinitely better in a form-skimming dress than a pair of shorts or jeans.

Anyway, yeah the dress is awesome. I only wish she had gone for it and worn the hat as well.

  Sorry to seem contrarian, but “Gay Tourette” is kind of bullshit. Nobody cares, and I get that, but people who deal with Tourette (the 90% of them who do not suffer from coprolalia, which is a very specific disorder rarely–other than on Ally McBeal, etc–associated with Tourette) often DO. Being mocked for having a disorder you can’t control is no better than being mocked for being black, or gay, or disabled. I am hearing way too many decent people throw this glib little snark around like it’s ok, some kind of smug cleverness, and it is not. Having someone very close to me dealing with this, I’m getting pretty sensitive about it, and am going to speak up when I hear it. So please excuse the rant.

I’ve discovered maxi skirts (maxi dresses are usually too bare for me up top), and with a t-shirt and sandals or wedges they’ve become my summer wardrobe. Love how they feel and look – and I can avoid suffocating in pants or showing my white, veiny legs in shorts and regular skirts.

Yes this is a pretty, floaty dress that looks nice on her and the model; but… it actually looks a little sloppy on Ashley.
Maybe it’s too large, maybe it needs all the other pink accessorizing.
Maybe this dress just needs to be on or very near the beach at all times. It’s not a caftan for town. Poolside only.

I had a nearly identical dress in the nineties! Almost exactly the same cut and layered skirts, except the underskirt was a uniform length instead of a mullet-y handkerchief and it was a lighter shade of pink. And it was the nineties so of course I wore mine with Doc Martens. Er, except for the time my grandmother insisted I wear sandals like a proper young lady and she braided half my hair Heidi-style and left the rest in loose waves down my back like some bohemian milkmaid.

I really miss my grandmother.
