Romona Keveza Spring 2013 Bridal Collection

We’re not gonna lie. Sometimes you just hit the wall when it comes to writing about bridal collections; especially if you’re not bridally oriented (e.g, us). That’s when a really fabulous press release comes in handy:

“The collection takes inspiration from one of the pearls of the French Riviera: the elegant seaside resort of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat in springtime. Known as the preferred holiday destination and escape for European aristocracy, the international jet set and A-list celebrities, Cap-Ferrat is laden with magnificent villas, tranquil gardens and pastel-colored surroundings.”

Darlings! That sounds SO up our alley! Glamorous weddings on the Riviera? Give us a second to grab our passports and panties and we’ll meet you at the gate!

The red one is WOW! That can’t possibly be for a bridesmaid, it is so fabulous. So it’s for some awesome bride who screws convention and gets married in blood red? I love it! Looks like something Emily Thorne should wear.

  The traditional color for Indian wedding attire is bright red (China, too, I think?), so it could work in several places. I, personally, even as an American would love to go for it. Gorgeous shade!

    Yes, in China also. In some places (mostly North Africa) I’ve seen straight-up silver. I think they’re a lot more fun than the traditional white in the west and parts of the Middle East, but I’m probably biased.

      I once saw a terrific production of Madama Butterfly, in which Cio-Cio San wears a white kimono for her Act I marriage to Pinkerton in an attempt to be more American and dons the same kimono before she kills herself in Act III.

  Agreed – the dresses look pretty but with the veils, particularly with those lace borders, you can’t see the detail. I can’t say the collection really screams French Riviera. Wouldn’t they need to be pastels?

There are no sleeves here… not that Romona Keveza is fashion forward enough to pretend that her dresses aren’t strapless with tulle or lace.

I was going to applaud and say yeah for no Kleenex until I saw the last gown. Oh well I’ll get off my soapbox now. Love to see lace making a comeback. Overall, very pretty and I would so wear 99% of these.

The first one is stunning. I love the trend of the veils that appear to fall from the top of the head. I realize it’s not practical, but I still think It looks very cool.

Perhaps it’s the staging, the lighting, the smiling models, but this one wins the bridal competition out of the collections you’ve posted. I would wear any one of these gowns. And I don’t even like lace! But especially the first one. And the one shoulder one.

I like the red one, mostly for the bold color, but I do like what was done with the skirt. Am I the only one a bit terrified by the model’s expression, like she’s about to pull a knife out of her bouquet and slay the wedding party?

As far as the rest of the dresses, I’ve liked some of the other collections you’ve posted better. If I ever get married, I won’t be wearing a dress like this, so it’s not really my market, but none of these seem very exciting.

I know I’m in the minority on this one, but I’m not all that stoked about the red dress, although I’m a HUGE fan of red and think a bride should wear red if she damn well pleases. I just don’t find anything innovative, different or exciting about the dress. It looks like the designer took the paper fans that my 6 year-old daughter makes and attached them to the skirt.

I like this as a collection–very coherent. I love the lace overlays. I guess it would not be the collection to go to if you want sleeves or coverage in general, though.

eh, a bit much for my taste. It’s just another batch of strapless, poofy dresses. The veils are too long for my taste. The only one I really like is the one with the weird one should strap.

The brides do look like they’ve had a good raging cry and now they’re going to F**K you all up! Especially the one in the red dress, which is the most innovative of them all, so she should be pleased, I don’t get it.

Anyway, out of all the bridal collections, this is another group of “seen one strapless gown, seen ‘em all” dresses. Carolina Herrerra’s collection is leagues ahead of every other one so far.

Now this is a goddamn bridal collection. Forget all that next gen, deconstructed nonsense. A bridal dress should look like Edith Head personally waved a magic wand over a Versailles page-a-day calendar and plastered the result onto you in a sexy, angelic decoupage.

I’m no jet-setter or A-lister, but I’ve been to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat quite a few times and I just don’t see the inspiration of that place in the dresses here. Not in the least.
I’ve seen these all before. Strapless, strapless, strapless, one shoulder, red portrait neckline, strapless, etc.
Completely boring and uninspired.

Particularly like the first gown. Also the sophisticated one-shoulder 7-8. The red gown is an improvement over the bedraggled
ketchup-y red ones from the earlier wedding line. It’s a little too cotilion in style for my taste, though.
I don’t know why it should be that difficult to make a great red bridal dress. The color is the biggest concern, I would think, -
because red is, well, – so red. Just like silver becomes nothing more than grey on some fabrics, and gold becomes mustard or
yellow depending on the material; red needs special consideration when selecting the fabric. Otherwise it can look really cheap;
like something you pull out of a plastic bag on Halloween. There are successful red dresses out there; for evening wear,
bridesmaids, etc. I’m sure if we looked at gowns from centuries past there’d be beautiful red dresses there too.
I think I have yet to see someone seriously take red and make a gorgeous bridal gown of it.

I love this trend of the over-lay with the lace in the first two, it’s a more modern look. It is much like the Oscar de la Renta over-lay gowns and it would be lovely to see in other gowns (not just in bridal).

Boring and nothing new. Bridal has been really insipid this year – the only one that has stood out to me was Oscar de la Renta. Everything else has been the same old thing.

i see a touch more class in this collection compared to much of what we’ve seen. i love the heavy lace on the veil in #2, and the
gown on #6. i’m loving the sheer veil over the otherwise bare head, almost makes me wish i had worn a veil at my wedding. but in
1977, it might have been a bit pretentious due to my previous cohabitation with a long string of characters. look #3 and the final red one are both gorgeous gowns, but don’t say bridal to me. here we go from the usual ugly hair of the season to invisible hair. i guess it would save some time getting dressed.
