Reese Witherspoon out and about in Bel Air.

We know that we’ve said in the past that you top our Irrational Celebrity Hate list – and truth be told, your position hasn’t really shifted on the chart – but we just wanted to say that pregnancy agrees with you and you’ve been looking kind of cute and soft in your semi-”candid” shots lately. Like here, for instance. We understand you’re checking out your new house and you have to pretend like you don’t want your picture taken, but honey. Cute little daytime ensemble you’ve got going on here. Nicely done. Love the flats, even if they do match the jacket. Great bag, too.

Okay, gotta run. You look like you’re ready to release the pit bulls.

    I don’t mind her either (liked her in Walk the Line although I didnt think it deserved an Oscar nod) but I think it’s the perkiness. For some of people it’s like nails on a god damn chalkboard.

I don’t like her when she’s pretending to be perky and *nice.* She’s a bit like Hugh Grant for me–I like them both better when they let out their inner villain.   Love that flick (pun unintended). Although Matthew Broderick does his share of heavy lifting too -that Kia Pop glues me to the screen. Dark humor (my kind of humor) is so rarely achieved in US mainstream cinema.

How can an adult human woman being person wear horizontal stripes while pregnant and not look like a VW Beetle? Especially one that isn’t 6′ tall?

  Because it shows off the pregnancy. Half of all maternity clothes right now are horizontally striped, and it’s all about flaunting the tummy. I don’t know quite why it works, but it does.

  I think part of it here is because the stripes have a slight curve to them — check the bottom hem, where you can see another white stripe in the middle, but the grey one above it arcs downwards on both sides — so the pattern goes straight across the stomach but it’s just far enough from being perfectly horizontal elsewhere that it avoids having that extreme widening effect you sometimes end up with.

    Maybe on some body types, but definitely not on everybody. I can’t wear horizontal stripes unless they’re reeeeally narrow stripes and the shirt in question is super fitted (let’s not even discuss a striped skirt or pant *shudder*), and even then it’s a total crapshoot. Large bust + narrow waist + horizontal stripes = solid block. Giant solid block. Especially if the stripe is matched up and continues across the bust onto the sleeves.

Can I just say how much I love to see a celebrity that has big calves like I do? Seriously! It’s awesome. =) I’m proud of my calves, too. Years of running and cycling have made them what they are…even if I can’t find a pair of boots that fit.

I can’t stand this one. And every time she throws in extensions and pouts and becomes Sexy Reese, my irrational dislike is stoked. Looks cute here. I guess.

Also, whenever I need a quick giggle, I remember her sighing/sobbing, “It burns! It burns! The ring of fire!” in her ‘emotional breakdown/breakthrough’ scene in “Walk the Line.” Don’t care that she got her Oscar; June deserved better!

I clicked on this thinking I really shouldn’t, I have such an irrational hatred for her (it’s like some part of me is convinced she really IS Tracy Flick — and let’s face it, she always does look super-anal, and I could believe in a heartbeat she’s ubermanipulative) and then you made my day by starting out the post with your own statement (I had no idea, I guess I’ve never clicked on a Reese post here before). She always did look cutest while pregnant – it softens the features of her face, which can get a bit…sharp.

I find her kind of irritating these days, but oh my god did I love her in Election. Tracey Flick forever! She was good in Pleasantville, too.

I absolutely adore Reese Witherspoon. She is a fabulous actress (although the choices she’s made in the past few years have been lackluster – interestingly since she met her agent/hubby). But she was superb in Election, Walk the Line (I think she completely deserved the Oscar as she was so specific in her performance), Pleasantville, Legally Blonde, and a little seen movie called Freeway where she is balls out great.

She is one darn cute pregnant lady. I can’t say I hate her, but mostly when I do have something positive to say about her, it comes out as a left-handed compliment at best. It’s because she comes off like a driven, hard working, entitled, bitchy sorority sister. I’m not entirely SURE that’s irrational . . .

That being said, I’ll fully confess that “Legally Blonde” 1 & 2 are two of my favorite movies. They’re two of my absolute guilty pleasures.
