      I’d like to disagree. A lot of people don’t look very comfortable / authentic / at ease / natural in front of a camera and therefore don’t take good picture. Professional make-up, lighting, and photoshop can’t fix that.

Feet, like hands, age really, really fast. There’s not enough subcutaneous fat. And considering how many people are so vocally squicked out by feet – something I never really got, personally – I’m not surprised that they effectively replaced her real foot with a plastic one.

I don’t think it’s hiding them, I just think everyone’s over strapless! At least I am. I love the sheer jacket, and I know my mom is always looking for pieces like that – they’re weirdly hard to find, and this is who the mag is geared towards. She’s not a princess going to prom, and I think the shawl draped over her, esp in the last shot, is actually pretty sexy.

  Vogue has a pattern very similar to that shrug, to be made with a semi-sheer fabric with some body. A bit tricky, as it calls for French seams, but very beautiful. I had three made up - in bronze, black and lilac.

I don’t necessarily think they were deliberately trying to hide her upper arms. She wears sleeveless dresses on occasion, and she’s been photographed in a bikini in the last couple of years, for Pete’s sake. And even if they were trying to hide them deliberately, I’m much less offended by someone wearing tasteful, age-appropriate clothing than I am by someone being photoshopped to hell.

  That’s my feeling – I’d rather see photos where a person has dressed to minimize what they might feel are flaws, rather than have them photoshopped into a better/younger/whatever state. It seems less deceitful.

    Arms age terribly — loose, wrinkled skin – and are very difficult to “restore” with exercise once aging sets in. When you are generally looking and feeling great –in shape, good skin, comfortable, happy, owning your own style — it’s really a drag to check yourself in the mirror and have the arm issue spoil the effect. For some reason, the contrast is really attention-grabbing, and once you know it’s there, it’s hard to bare them without feeling self-conscious.

I recently saw her first film appearance in a movie called “The Age of Consent” — filmed in Australia, with James Mason — directed by the great Michael Powell. All I know is that her smile looks genuine and not Photoshopped. Yes, I’m sure her entire body got the digital treatment, but Queen Helen once again demonstrates that a woman’s best beauty feature is a smile, which I wish the rest of the industry would latch on to.
