Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke ditches the Khaleesi drag for something a lot more glamorous, leaving her pretty much completely unrecognizable.

Seriously, without being told, we’d never have known it was her.

It’s a fun editorial, even if we think she’s not very good at giving face. But the real reason we’re putting these pictures up is to give y’all a chance to chat about Game of Thrones this year, which has been awesome. Also: No, we’re not going to write about it. It’s a show we’d much rather enjoy than have to sit through it, taking notes.

But amazing battle scenes last night, yes? And wasn’t it refreshing to have the story just stay with a relatively small group of characters in one setting, rather than bouncing around the globe, checking in on dozens? And Cersei. Completely crazy, dangerous bitch, amirite? Totally deserves a slap. And did Joffrey try to have Tyrion killed during the battle? Did Sansa leave or not? This is why we don’t write about it. We’d never be able to keep track of it all. Discuss.

EDITED TO ADD: Of course, our main reason for not blogging Game of Thrones was because we knew the book’s fans would wind up spoiling details in our comments section and we don’t want that. Some of the commenters have done that already, resulting in several deleted comments and an annoyed T Lo. Seriously, guys. Talk about this editorial, talk about Emilia, talk about HBO’s Game of Thrones. DO NOT talk about any of the books at all.

I love my Khaleesi!! This has made my day and it’s only 8:03 a.m….jesus, where does the day go from here? She really looks amazing-I’m biased as she is my favorite on the show. I feel kind of sorry for the kid playing Joffrey-I can’t imagine him not getting slapped everywhere he goes in real life. I know I wanna slap the brat.

    He is THE most obnoxious character on TV right now, and the actor is totally awesome playing him, because when he shows his smug little face (“I want to give him a smile, a RED smile”) I just want to punch him. HARD. He has the most ridiculous swagger. Fantastic casting, as with every other dang character on the show. LOVE.

  The actor is a total sweetheart, too, and all the cast is super-protective of him because of the material he’s getting. I heard he doesn’t even like to curse and got really upset during some of his more brutal scenes.

My favorite book series, so I’m loving the show. Some of the changes bug, but the most recent episode (which was written by GRRM himself) was beyond awesome.

Love GoT. I read the first book, but stopped after that. I want to enjoy the show for what it is, rather than make comparisons to the book (which I did during the first season). As for Ms. Emilia here, I normally think brunettes look strange as blondes, but she looks so striking with Danny’s silvery locks. Not that she doesn’t look gorgeous here.

In other Got related news, Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) sat across from me in a restaurant in Vancouver over the weekend. He’s much more svelte in person without the furs covering him up, but still gorgeous.

I wouldn’t want to blog on this show either – you might end up with those bookish types wanting to break down every deviation or omission. I totally didn’t get why the King’s Guard turned on Tyrion, but thought Cersei was behind it. If they never talked about Khaleesi again I would be content, but I did miss Arya.

Weird how Dawg (or however you spell it) freaked out over the fire. Completely backwards from the grandstanding he was going prior to the battle.

Anyway. I didn’t recognize the actress on the cover either.

Yes! Sunday’s episode was a video catalog of the many ways one can be injured with a sword/shields/arrows/rocks/pigshit/etc. Now that Tywin saved the day, how will King Joffrey Bieber be received? GAME OF THRONES. I love it so so so much. And can we also, as a site dominated by comments by ladies, take a moment to appreciate how GoT, more than most TV shows, has powerful, dynamic, interesting women? And not just one kind of woman. There’s Daenerys, who’s a bit of a cliche with her silvery locks and her Great Destiny (though I love how the show’s problematising that), Arya who is gifted and funny and sharp and determined, Sansa who started off as a wet blanket but through life’s hard lessons has proved herself to be a survivor and an impressive young woman, Catelyn who is resourceful and motherly and fierce, Cersei who may be an evil bitch but is cunning and resourceful, Brienne who is tough and is a warrior woman who doesn’t go around in a tiny ridiculous boob-plate but instead looks like a fierce chivalric knight, Osha who is cunning and pragmatic and kind… I could go on and on. I know the cast is huge, but even so, in ensemble casts normally it’d be mostly the men who get the varied parts and juicy storylines. <3

  Totally agree with you on the range of female characters. I used to DESPISE Sansa, but she’s growing on me. I love how she has started openly undermining Joffrey, even if he is too dense to pick up on everything she’s saying.

    Yeah, we’ll see her again. They’ve done a really remarkable job with all the storylines and streamlining the plot of the books, but it remains pretty fractured storytelling.

    Sansa is learning so much, poor sweetie. I really feel for her. She was quite sheltered and silly, but I object to people who seem to think she DESERVED to be treated badly or blame her for “betraying” Ned (she was just a child, really!). And now she’s alone and surrounded by wolves and she’s doing so so well. Her panic over starting her period broke my heart. Loved how Shae instantly helped her out there.

  Sansa is probably one of my favorite female characters, we never get to see the point of view of the pretty princess in fantasy in general it’s always the tomboy like Arya who gets the attention. For me Sansa’s arc is the one i want to watch and read about the most. Also Cersei deep down is a feminist as she said in the last episode, if they allowed her to do what she wanted she could have been as good a leader as Tywin.

I read an interview with her where she said she can pretty much go about without being recognized, because she’s a natural brunette. This is a fabulous editorial.

GoT is SO GOOD this season! I love it, and they should just forego the nomination process and hand Peter Dinklage the Emmy. I think Cersei had him attacked, not Joffrey. J’s not smart enough to get someone else to do his dirty work. Or he’d have the Hound (whoa – who would have thought something would frighten him?) do it.

  I wonder if Peter Dinklage would be nominated for lead or supporting actor, since he’s essentially the star this season? Assuming he’s nominated for supporting actor again, he’s absolutely fantastic, but I would have to give the edge to Aaron Paul (Jesse) or Giancarlo Esposito (Gus) from Breaking Bad. The acting on BB is mind-blowing. That being said, Tyrion is a great character and gets many of the best lines, which is what makes him so fun to watch, and he probably will win since GoT has been excellent this season.

Count me among those who never would have recognized her. Like many here, I too have a Khaleesi girl-crush, and she started out as one of my least-favorite characters. Now she’s right up there with Arya and Tyrion in terms of my love for her.

This week’s episode was fantastic. I’ve read only the first two books, so I’m marking the changes with interest. On the whole, I think they’re good. It’s hard adapting any book to the screen, and these books have so many characters that even with a whole season to interpret them it’s going to be nearly impossible to match the books exactly. I do think Cersei was probably trying to get Tyrion killed (revenge for Myrcella, because torturing the wrong whore is apparently not enough), I love seeing Joffrey proved a coward, and I greatly look forward to the day that someone does more than just slap him. He’s the WORST.

The editorial is weird. The big bouffant hair is giving her the worst case of bobble head I’ve seen in a very long time. It almost looks like the picture is purposely distorted.

GoT’s is the total bomb, and I usually don’t care for middle earth type stories. Cersei is as crazy as you would expect someone who sleeps and is in love with her ow brother. I want Jeoffrey to die a slow, painful death. That is one sick and twisted kid. I do believe he tried to get rid of Tyrion.

Sansa is so stupid I bet she stayed because she wanted her brother to come save her so she could gloat.

  In the first season, I remember Sansa and Arya verbally jousting with each other and Sansa was not easy pickings. Sansa may have been silly and naive, but she was never stupid. When she said to the Hound, “you won’t hurt me”, she totally understood that he wouldn’t and it came across more as a cmmmand than a plea. She seems to be growing a pair of iron ovaries.

GoT: I’m loving it. I read the books (the first four, anyway) before they announced that there was going to be a series, and I was ridiculously happy to see the books play out on the screen. I’ve since read through the books (including, now, the most recent) a second time so I guess I could be considered a GoT fangirl…but. But: I don’t really mind any of the omissions/additions that are occurring as part of the TV series.

Well, except some minor quibbles:
–Would have loved for Dany to hurry on her way through Quarth (KARTH!) as in the books. They sort of let her linger here this season–I’m not sure they know what to do with her otherwise.
–I miss Weasel Soup. It’s a minor thing, but I always loved Arya kicking a**.
–The chain in the Battle of the Blackwater. That was kinda horrifying in the book; wildfire everywhere and THEY CAN’T GET OUT.

I’m not sure what the heck they’re doing with Robb’s love story with the Volantis girl, but I do wonder how it’s going to change the Red Wedding scene. Seems like they’re just trying to build it out a bit more so it doesn’t seem like such a throwaway.

I’m loving all the added dialog scenes between Varys and Tyrion, etc.

  I think they changed Robb’s love story because it’s nonexistent in the books. He basically shows up one day and says, “Hey Ma, look who I brought home!” It wouldn’t really play well on a TV show, and this way his choices are a bit more understandable. I think the Red Wedding will happen as it did in the books… and I’m going to weep buckets.

Love Game of Thrones, this season has been outstanding! Cersei was fabulous on Sunday, simply because you could see how she reeked of desperation! Tyrion is amazing. Oh and Khaleesi is unrecognizable in these photos, but she is stunning none the less. I’d like to bitchslap the annoying Joffrey into next week!

Can we all take a moment to just talk about Bronn? And how amazingly badass he is? That shot of him shooting the arrow that set off the wildfire was just stunning, never mind that scene with him and the Hound facing each other down was just so tense and full of awesome. I found myself going “omfg if he kills Bronn, I am ragequitting this show” and meaning it. Bronn, you sneaky devil, you’ve snuck your way into my heart as a character I am emotionally invested. I also loved him singing the Rains of Castamere. He does have a lovely singing voice lol

  Love how Bronn’s character has been highlighted in the series. Every episode should have a scene with Tyrion, Bronn and Varys.
  
  Last night’s episode was great, even with some changes from the book. Cersei was def. behind the attempted murder of Tyrion, and they made The Hound a little less creepy than he’s portrayed in the book — NO WAY would Sansa have gone off with his book character lol.

Here in Tennessee, we call that hair “jacked up to Jesus”! I have limp, anemic hair so I’m not really one to talk, but I think that big foofy hairstyle really ages her. She looks more like old ’60s pictures of my mom than a sex kitten. That pic of her in Blumarine/H&M is kind of cool, though.

Sunday night’s wildfire scene was one of the COOLEST things I’ve seen on TV in a long time. I was practically screeching in delight when I saw it.

And I’m with the people who think Bronn is sexy as hell.

I started reading the GoT books a couple of weeks ago and I just started the fourth one. I can’t put them down, and I’m not even into fantasy-Middle Earth-Medieval Stuff-whatever we’re calling it. Awesome series, awesome show. A bright spot in my somewhat bleak life right now. That and this blog.

Loved Blackwater! I’ve been wondering how they’d handle that big battle, and I think they did a great job. The scenes with The Hound and Sansa would make more sense if they hadn’t given his lines to Littlefinger ages ago.

Ah, guys, I was wondering why you weren’t blogging GoT–I thought you *had* to be watching it. But now it’s clear.

I got totally hooked on Season One, but don’t have HBO so I have to wait *forever* before I see the good stuff of Season 2. Instead I’ve been reading the books, which are totally addictive, but in many ways, the version is better–they wisely aged up the kids a bit and all those wonderful actors give the whole thing some emotional heft.

Sorry people have been spoiling things. I’ve seen some of that on other sites–and it really is a bitchy thing to do.

I recognize her in the first shot, but it’s a shocker to see her without the violet eyes and white hair. On another note, I’m the only person I know in my demographic that does not like G of T. Really. I love Tyrion, the idea of the Jon Snow plot, and the overall look. My issue is that there’s a fine line between portraying violence in general and violence against women in particular in a way that highlights how awful war is and wallowing in it in a way that titilates. For me, the scene where Joffrey forced one prostitute to beat/flay/whip/whatever the other crosses that line. The second book had many scenes that did the same, though I won’t discuss per TLo’s reasonable request. I quit watching the show after the aforementioned prostitute scene. I well understand what a minority opinion this is and how humorless it makes me look!

  Not humorless at all – GoT has a real thing about gratuitous violence against women, particularly of a sexual nature. The weird thing is that the books had moments of this, but it was highlighting the patriarchal and brutal society the story takes place in. The show seems to do it for shits and giggles.

Tyrion’s speech about not fighting for the king was the best part. By the way, Peter Dinklage is on the cover of Rolling Stone and there is a piece about him as well as about the author, Martin.

There is something heroic about Dinklage in real life as well, as you see in the article. I really like him.

- Lena Headey should be given her own category for acting awards. First 300 and now GoT, I now can’t imagine a fantasy queen being played by anyone BUT her.
- What is in the Westeros water that gives their men such glorious tangled curls?!? I can barely pay attention to anything Tyrion, Jon or Robb say for madly wanting to run my hands through their locks. Maybe it’s lack of Westeros water…
- Hoping to see more drunk Cersei.
