Cover Girl: Charlize for InStyle Magazine

Charlize takes another moment out of her busy schedule to remind the world that she is fierce as shit.

Charlize Theron covers the June 2012 issue of InStyle magazine photographed by Michelangelo di Battista and styled by Leslie Fremar in a dress by Salvatore Ferragamo.

And that she has a God-given gift for wearing metallics.

On aging: “I see my face and my body changing, and they’re all changes I’m OK with. Part of me understands I may not be in front of the camera forever, and maybe not just because of age, but because of me. I wouldn’t have started my own production company if I didn’t feel that way.”

On being a mom: “Motherhood was something I always knew I wanted to experience. What a great opportunity for someone like me who wants to have a family. I can only hope to be 10 percent of the mom mine was to me. She encouraged me to be confident and enjoy life. That’s what I want for my son. So far I’m not surprised by anything about being a mom. It’s all pretty great – but that’s what I expected.”

On being single/in a relationship: “I’m always open to a relationship, but I’m not putting those feelers out there now. I’m not unhappy with it, but I’m not like, ‘Oh, this is so much better than when I was in a relationship.’ I am a relationship girl. That’s kind of just how I’m made … There’s definitely something in the nature of a man and a woman that makes that challenging, but it was never a huge problem for me. I don’t live my life in a way that feels big. When you’re in my life, it’s actually very contained.”

Maybe I’m a communist or something, but I can’t deal with lame. She looks fine, but the dress just reminds me of that sparkly pleather on the seats in my Dad’s bass boat. I can practically feel it sticking to my thighs. It’s probably just me.

      Google “alt codes.” For the e with an acute accent, you hold down Alt then hit 0233. If your number pad is embedded in your keyboard like mine is, you also have to push Num Lock first.

      Alt 130 is accent aigu, alt 138 is accent grave. My French degree really comes in handy while commenting on fashion blogs…if nowhere else.

But she has won me over based on two things 1) her HILARIOUS recurring role as Rita on Arrested Development and 2) her ability to wear the shit out of clothes both on the RC and on magazine covers. Ack, the runway shot is a lamé bath sheet knotted at the bust. That is TERRIBLE (Bad Ferragamo! No cookie!). So glad the dress on the cover is so much better. Also glad they went with copper instead of gold. It seems like she wears gold really a lot, so the copper is kind of refreshing.

Charlize looks wonderful here; as always. But I can’t help but notice the British editions of Vogue, InStyle, and other
European fashion mags seem to create much better ‘looks’ for celebs in their photo images and layouts. The quality of the
photography is more sharp, more interesting, more put together… more something. Looking through them gives me the ’wants’
much more than my US subscriptions. At least British versions do. I find myself calculating in pounds.

I love the color of the dress and would love to see it without the distracting crap all over a white cover.
Nonetheless, she’s stunning and it’s hard to take your eyes off her.

Love the dress and she’s fabulous, but that really doesn’t look like her face. The runway version of the dress is shriek-worthy. Yikes.

I refuse to believe someone can be that – that lukewarm and contained - about their life. Unless she is on some kind of medication that she is not sharing with the rest of the class.
