I always post that I covet her hair. I’ll take her legs as well. She always looks amazing. But even I, who has a tremendous Girl Crush on Duchess of Shiny Hair have started to grow bored of her clothing. It’s always a suit with a peplum, a basic dress, the shapes are always the same. I mean, don’t misunderstand, she looks elegant and classy as hell – but when you are photographed as often as she is, it might be nice to throw in a little spice every now and then. She has to be careful (and conservative) because she’s a royal — not a Hollywood celebrity. I LOVE her, but kinda wish she had worn her hair up with this. Definitely one of her best looks, though. I die for those shoes (and her legs).

  I agree that she has to be conservative. But there is a lot of territory between plain jane and too risque. The last she wore that truly stands out in my mind was that blue Missoni coat she wore. Apparently she took shit for it because it was an Italian designer. Which, whatever….But there was nothing un-conservative about that coat. It was not visually risky. Apparently it was politically risky which again – whatever. Not that mine is an original criticism or anything. Maybe she’ll spice it up for the Olympics.     I’ve noticed that if I go up a bit in price ($100-$200ish price range) the shoes are more comfortable than the under $100 range, particularly when you hit below $50, most of the time. I’m sure there’s a ceiling that you hit though – I would guess anything above $300 or $400 probably isn’t any more comfortable.
    
    Shelling out a little bit more has been a godsend for me though, since I have to wear heels every day at work. A friend of mine swears by her Louboutins, but I really think she’s bullshitting.

      I’m lucky in that I only HAVE to wear heels maybe 3-4 times a year. The rest of the year I can get away with flats or boots. But oh those days I have to wear heels…I pay for it for a week.

  No really. Shoes past $100-$200 and you’re really just paying for the name. I buy for quality, not comfort, when shopping for heels. 4-5″ shoes will hurt eventually how you slice it, but there’s the matter of hurting because you’re standing on tip toes all night, or hurting because of that AND the shoes are crappy. I’ve borrowed a pair of high-end big name designer shoes and they still hurt. You’re just paying for bragging rights and how pretty and meticulously crafted they are at $700. My take is: you’re still gonna scuff them! No thanks!

My former high school music teacher who lives in England directs a professional choir there, which was asked to sing at a wedding in a local village. So he agreed and they went to the small cathedral, and he said he was surprised to see that the Bishop of Norwich was conducting the ceremony, but was even more surprised and shocked when William and Kate appeared as members of the congregation. I agree too. I think the problem comes from looking at his clothes from a fashion perspective. The Row tailors generally have little time for fashion tailoring. And a double breasted suit is what they’ll recommend for him.

  I’ve always admired her for what I perceive to be a very practical, even shrewd, vision of what ‘her job’ would be, and the evident fact that she’s worked with incredible discipline to do that job. But it still boggles my mind that anyone has the self command to keep a neutrally pleasant – to charming expression on their face at all times, no matter what they’re saying, where the sun is, etc. (Maybe because the sides of *my* mouth, at rest, turn down a bit and I’m always appalled at how dour I look when I don’t feel that way at all.)

How does she do this every time? Everyone on the red carpet has stylists and professionals of all types to help them choose an outfit and get ready for their events, and yet they hardly ever manage to do what she seems to do every time she goes out. Amazing.

In part, I think, because she acknowledges that her appearance is a huge part of her job and she accords it time and attention accordingly. She clearly dresses to a formula, and I bet that any deviation from that formula is considered seriously, that she consults with others about it, and probably even takes the time to have ‘new’ variations photographed and/or filmed on her to make sure they read as intended.

I suspect that entertainers often give their clothing less thought, leaving that for the singing, acting or whatever they do.

Maybe it’s not having having stylists, and also having to buy the dress instead of getting loans and freebies thrown at her that leads to more consideration and more care. It also may be why she errs on the conservative side so she gets repeat wears out of them. Also, she doesn’t lack in advisors if she’s open to them.

She also does not need to take any fashion risks to get attention. She knows what works for her and she stays with it. She knows that if she wears her millionth simple elegant dress (that is custom made for her and not a sample loan) and people will still fall over her taking pictures. She definitely plays it safe. But lovely!

You aren’t going to get him in anything other than classic Savile Row tailoring, and apart from a few upstarts, they don’t do fashion cuts or anything too European or American. Also, men of his class buy their suits to last until they rot, so they have to hold their course without dating. That’s just how it is. Nobody would buy an extraordinarily expensive hand-stitched bespoke suit if it only had a shelf life of a few seasons, not even a Royal (especially not a Royal). It’s outside of fashion and long may it survive.

She is without a doubt a beautiful and impeccably-groomed and dressed woman and I really don’t expect many bad fashion and grooming moves from her, because everything she does feels very calculated. She had a lot of time pre-engagement to hone her game to play the perfect princess, and she knows what she’s doing.
