Yea or Nay: A-Morir Sunglasses

Our first thought upon viewing these A-Morir shades was, “We can’t picture anyone but Rihanna, Nicki Minaj or Gaga wearing them.” So color us completely unsurprised to find out in the second paragraph of this article that all three have, in fact worn them.

Cass

They’re fun and creative, that’s for sure. But we question how well they’d look on the average person. Especially, the “Phillips” version, which calls to mind Grouch Marx-style gag glasses.

But maybe we’re being narrow-minded. You tell us:

I would need to see them on for a final opinion, but I can see them working in some cases. I’m just wondering how they are finished on the bottom of the Cass pairs…are the flowers digging into your face and leaving little petal marks? That, would be horrid.

I’m gonna sat a very tentative YEA. I refer the Philips style to the Cass, but I think very carefully deployed they could look cute. If I could afford them, I’d try them.

I like the pink “Cass.” I’d try them on. If they were huge Jackie-O style, they’d rock. If they weren’t big enough, I’d see the flowers and get cross-eyed.

YEA in theory, but probably a NAY in practice. The glasses photograph well, but what will they look like on an actual face? I’m also fairly certain those lovely flowers will grab hold of hair, and tickle/scratch the cheeks when you smile or squint.

They look JUST LIKE Italian Capodimonte to me! I had earings that looked like those flowers. That said, I would not wear them, because I would feel like I was walking around with one of my zia’s centerpieces on my face.

I could see wearing the Phillips with just the flower eyebrows (not the full rounded ones), just because they wouldn’t look like Groucho Marx. The others? No way. I think they’re all interesting as an art project – in the real world, no so much. Guess that makes them a NAY.

i *love* the phillips multicolored version — those are my favorites. the all black could be misconstrued from a distance, but i wouldn’t wear either black pair anyway. nope, the very first pair are definitely the only ones i’d wear, and god are they gorgeous.

I love that they’re named after the Mama’s & Papa’s, but that’s where it ends for me, although if I were forced to choose, I might pick the pastel Philips pair. Other than that, they look too costumey, so Nay for me!

How can anyone look at these and not think of a trip to Michael’s, a hot glue gun, and little miniature flowers rolled in asian factories, 25 cents a pop? In fact I have a bag of them that I thought I would turn into earrings for the goody-bag gifts for my daughter’s birthday party, but didn’t have the time to carry through.

I am apparently a boring old traditionalist in the sunglasses category and while they’re something that I’d be entertained to see Gaga wear, I tend to prefer see real people wear cool-looking sunglasses that compliment their appearance and don’t take over their look. My love of good-looking, more minimalist sunglasses makes me think of Patrick Dempsey modeling Serengeti sunglasses. Dempsey doesn’t do much for me EXCEPT when he’s wearing sunglasses. Ooof.

Nay. This is the throwaway accessory that people will belittle next year. Also, they might be very heavy to wear with the ceramic on them. Your nose might hurt. They might give people headaches, etc. If you have too much money and don’t mind throwing them out at the end of the season, then buy them. But they are, in no way, classic.
