People’s 2012 World’s Most Beautiful Women

You guys, Beyonce is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD. This year. Next year, she will look exactly the same but not be considered the most beautiful. Such is the brutal world of being a highly lauded, overpaid celebrity.

Beyonce named the World’s Most Beautiful Woman 2012 by People magazine.

Here are the other women on the list, whom People deemed beautiful, but not as beautiful as Beyonce. As always, it’s just a coincidence that they’ve all had banner career years. For instance, Madeline Stowe has rocketed to the top of the list now that she has a hit TV series. When she was wallowing in has-been-land, she was apparently quite unattractive. Funny how that works out.

        Yeah, I know what you’re saying; I’m very small with D-cups and finding stuff to fit waist/chest is a nightmare. I suppose I just think Vergara/Hendricks/Beyonce are viewed as “curvy” and therefore bombshell and desirable by magazines, whereas someone like (for instance) Adele is just seen as “plus size” and is rarely marketed in that same way. The small-minded thinking is just frustrating, even though I know these magazines pander to the lowest common denominator.

        I agree. I’ve never seen Hendricks in one, but Sofia and Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, etc, are seen in bikinis and the like. They show off their flat abs and strong legs while ‘celebrating’ their chests and curvy hips and larger butts. So, yes, curvy/bombshell, etc. But someone like Adele is not seen that way. I don’t think she is fat, but b/c she doesn’t have a flat stomach, she’s seen as plus. I don’t agree with it, but then, People never sent me a questionnaire.

        T and Lo, I don’t know if it’s allowed to mention companies here or not – but I’m also a woman with unusually large boobs (I’m 16 on top and 10 on bottom), and I know the pain of looking for dresses etc… and I discovered a British company that actually specializes in clothes for women with exactly this body type. I swear I don’t work for them, and some of their designs are truly hideous, but I’ve actually been able to find summer dresses there that fit and flatter – and that’s an absolute first for me. Sounds like some of the other ladies in this convo might want to have a look… they’re called Bravissimo.

      I’ve always wondered how their sizes can be so small, for “curvy” women. I know they say the camera adds 10 pounds; and when it’s a picture of me I’m convinced it’s at least 20. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more man-like when I look in the mirror. I think I look pretty good for my age! I know I’m delusional, but it’s a much happier place to be than constantly bemoaning my extra pounds. I am working on my extra pounds now because my husband’s doctor suggested that he adjust his diet and it is easier when we are both on the program.

      My son’s former percussion instructor has been in Ms. Lambert’s band for years, now. She is beautiful but her weight fluctuates a good bit – her “normal” weight is still slim but at least a full size, maybe two, larger than the willowy girl she is in some of her videos. When she was first breaking into the country top 40 & had recently gotten major management, she was under some pressure to slim down. She works on it.

    Since they do decide beauty is based on career success, and it’s a kind of narrow band of successful careers they are looking at (where are the kick-arse librarians?) the body shape is always going to be skewed to what Hollywood is calling acceptable.

Though from what I’ve seen and read of her, I do think she’s got tons of personality, confidence, poise and intelligence, and it’s all visible in her face. To me and me only, something about her still pings me as cute rather than beautiful, but it’s ridiculously hard to quantify (and, of course, more than a little gross and mean on the meta-level, to be picking someone’s appearanceapart like this at all).

Miranda Lambert’s photo is flawless. When I first saw that the list was out, I thought “I bet Miranda won’t be on it” and lo and behold, there she is. Of course these women are gorgeous. They are paid incredible amounts to be so, and have armies of people to insure that it stays that way. With the exception of the pics of Michelle Williams, Christina Hendricks and Charlize Theron, this is some seriously bad photography. The lighting is awful and harsh and almost every woman here looks as bad as I’ve ever seen them. Seriously, I think that’s the worst picture of Kate Middleton I’ve ever seen. And that class photo-style backdrop for Madeline Stowe is laughable.

What’s weird about Beyonce getting the #1 spot is that she hasn’t had a banner year career-wise at all. Her husband did pretty good for himself, but all she did was give birth to the world’s most famous baby. Not sure if that’s more insulting or less. If Cathy Cambridge manages to produce an heir by next year, will she get the cover?*

*Note: I think Beyonce is stunning and have no problem with her being “voted” #1, insofar as I care at all rather than finding these lists a bit gross, frankly. That’s a terrible photo of her, though.

The body type that always seems to be considered fat is having a
stomach or belly. You can have much larger hips or thighs but still
often hide them with the right dress. But if you have that extra size
at the waist it seems like you are considered fat and it is tough to
find clothes to camoflage it. Look at how Stacey and Clinton even seem
not to be able to camo it.
