Maybe we’ll start doing “mid-day fierce” posts to go along with the “end of the day pretty” posts. We’re thinking many of the Precious Unborn Fawns among our readers could do with a shot of fierce right around the time of day they start slumping.

The clothes are heinous, but I am enjoying the Robert Palmer vibe. Her face and hair are pretty amazing. Also, the fact that she’s gorgeous doesn’t hurt. I’m not sure many other people could sell the Night Porter look as effectively.

    The only thing I’ve ever liked her in was Bend It Like Beckham. She shouts a lot in most of the things I’ve seen her in. Occasionally the role calls for it, more often then not it doesn’t. But these pictures are great.

    Actually I was thinking of her performance in P&P when I commented initially. Horrible. I think Ms Knightley has a fair amount of natural talent. I’m not sure she has honed that as well as she could have. Instead, like a number of movie stars, she’s relied on tricks like the pouty mouth and the clenched jaw. Kind of like Julia Roberts and her five facial expressions. I get frustrated with people like KK because there is something there to begin with, but they only seem to scratch the surface of it.
    
    I do, however, LOVE these pics.

Most of the time when actresses (or models, for that matter) are featured in a really strong look (i.e., with a lot of makeup and styling), they seem to just fade behind the look and are barely recognizable. Not Keira Knightley! I love that she looks fierce as shit, but still looks like herself. Kudos to her for giving great face (and to the mag for not styling her out of her face).

Ready to be a vampire queen or a replicant. The Knightley is so butch. I’ve always thought Portman was her weak and victim playing little shadow. But I’ve liked Keira ever since POTC1 when during an interview she said something about how the movie would appeal to everyone who wanted to be a pirate when they were little and the interviewer questioned whether little girls ever wanted to be pirates. Her eyes widened with outrage and she said “ESPECIALLY the little girls!”

And the cigarette was inspired, it fits in so well that it’d be a cliche except that almost nobody will let themselves be photographed smoking any more, even if they really are smokers.
